If this is true, it stands in the face of everything our founding fathers fought for.

I voted Friday afternoon at West Grey along with what it seems was most of Houston. The line was approximately one hour and forty-five minutes when I arrived at 2:30. It only got longer from there on. Everything seemed very much on the up and up, they did not allow cell phones in line, but everyone just sort of ignored the sign and the went ahead texting and etc. So I guess the headline at the West Grey early voting would have read. "Voters illegally use smart phones in line at polling place".

I had never voted early. So I did not know what to expect when it came to ID. I expected to not provide an ID. However, they required an ID. On the list of approved ID's included: CHL, Drivers License, Passport, State issued Picture ID, certified birth certificate or recent utility bill.

I decided to use my Drivers License.
Took me :15 mins on the second day of early voting at the same location which is about two blocks from home. I'm never waiting to vote on election day again. On another note, I turned my mobile phone off and when I got to my voting station, there was a female HPD officer, next to me, who's phone rang really loudly. I turned to her and said..."what are they gonna do, call the Police?" We had a good laugh and carried on with the voting.

Someone made a crack about LEO's and donuts.....shrug.....

On topic.....why am I not surprised.....and why am I not surprised that this happened in Houston. I imagine it will get a smack down and a "bad bad boy" eventually, but that does not undo what happened. So they are free to continue disobeying the law at the moment.

I doubt anything will happen, even if Romney is elected. The current admin let the New PB off from what they did 4 years ago and if that man wins again they may even get cabinet appointments. And if Romney wins he will probably just let it slide and try to move on.

Yep, if they're called on it, they throw down the "R" card and everyone scatters in fear of being labeled RACIST. Oh, the Horror!

Dunkin Donuts.....
This post is is offensive and provides no value to the discussion.
Lighten up. Who made you the arbiter of taste?
No he's right...it is offensive. I get my coffee and donuts from Starbucks...

Dunkin Donuts is for guys tied up paying union dues and buying their own gear... :cheers2:

JK - regarding the police fixing it- you would be hard pressed to have them take any action as polling place law doesn't really fit our day to day operations. Not even sure if there is a state law we could enforce about it - I know there are state laws, but I'm not sure they would be enforced by the call-responsive agencies in the area. It may be a judge issuing some orders and constables handling it. Idunno...

If I showed up, I would tread REAL lightly without knowing what my authority to act in that area actually is. I'm more specialized towards dealing with the vice crimes in my area - drunks, dope, gang members, burglars, and prostitution.

Actually Dunkin' Donuts is making a comeback in the Houston market in the coming months.

For what it's worth, in the other part of Texas.... my wife and I met up after work Firday, to vote early at the Tarrant County Sheriff's Office substation in northwest Tarrant County. Got there about 5:30 - a very short (8-10 people) line to have our voter registration cards checked - then moved in to sign in and receive the ballot activation code - then a short wait for an electronic voting machine to open for each of us. Total time from parking to leaving - about 20 minutes. Waited longer than that next door at the Burger King. No need for any picture ID, no hassles, no one soliciting votes, no one "monitoring" the voting process, just a bunch of neighbors exercising our democratic rights. It was a good day, for all.

Sounds like the rural South when GeoWallace was cruising for election. Then, the std currency was a half-pint of something 86 Proof. The players have changed, but the tactics are the same. Its still bribery and intimidation, just less obvious.

Supposedly they were trying to get elderly and disabled people through the line quicker. Which I don't have much of a problem with as long as they were doing it for all the elderly and all the disabled. Don't the rules say they have to be registered in that precinct to be within 300 feet? Wonder if they were?

From what I heard on the radio, they were illegally in the polling place.

Of course they were. Only a blatant, outright racist, honky would have ever suspected them of wrongdoing or questioned their motives.

I am so sick of this socially acccepted, reverse racism that I think I'm gonna' go outside and puke on a gopher mound. I wish it was Wednesday already.
