Some folks hear without listening. Then they apply the incorrect conclusions to what they didn't listen to.

I'm wondering if in this case it was the students or instructors. Saying that, I had a CHL class this Sat. One of the first things I cover is the application process, complete with slide pictures of the DPS website and each step. Next day I get a call from a student asking how to apply online, then he said "You didn't cover that in class."

Have now run into third person today, a gun dealer, who said after 10 years one is exempt from having to get a CHL. All 3 had same CHL instructor. Sounds like an instructor issue.... The instructor is no longer teaching but was a cop.

DPS sends a renewal notice to the address on the license. They ignore that letter at their own peril.
If they didn't update their address, it should be suspended anyway. :nono:

Yes I am...trying to understand what your response has to do with some thinking that after 10 years their license becomes somehow permanent.

Did DPS give out screenshots of the application process? How would a "classic" instructor get same? Last time I tried to log into the system, it just said I was already licensed, and didn't need to renew.

Don't you just love "DPS openness" ?

Obviously they're mistaken, like some people are about churches, alcohol, and generic anti gun signs. It's just one more thing that some people are confused about, whether it's their instructor's fault or their own. But I think his point was that DPS sends a renewal notice that should be a big clue to those who aren't terminally clueless. If they get the letter and they're stupid enough to ignore it, I have no sympathy. If they don't get the letter because they refused to update their address, I don't have any sympathy for that either. So it doesn't sound like much of a problem compared to other CHL urban myths.

Print screen of what? How did you get into the system if you're already licensed. Or are you just printing the opening screen? If you have screenshots of the whole process, you're my current hero!

Oh, sorry... I see what you are saying. No, I use printscreen on the keyboard and print the opening page, then Select CHL, then Renew or Original, then the Login page.

Ah, ok. Then you actually didn't actually get screenshots of the whole process. You are hereby relieved of the duties of 'hero'.

Or the letter never arrives. I argued with the Post Office in Alvin for 2 months that our mail was missing. The driver insisted she put it in the box every day. We had tracked letters showing delivery as well. FInally a supervisor comes out, ostensibly to shut me up, and discovers that our mail was in the box below mine, in one of those stupid neighborhood boxes. That box was an empty home.

If all else fails, my license has the expiration date printed in big redish numbers. ;-)
