I have two things I really want but can't decide which one. A new 1911 and a .40. I wouldn't mind an ar in 762 either but not at the top of the list. Ewe, and a new safe but that's a crazy hard decision.

I'm relatively sure I'm in the minority, but I get what I want when I want it throughout the course of the year. That is, I buy it (whatever it may be) when I want it. Waiting for someone to get the hint at Christmas time or for my birthday or ..., is in my opinion not a viable idea and hasn't been for years...

That said, my wife and I don't buy each other gifts (she too gets whatever she wants when she wants it) nor do I want them or express a desire for them from anyone else in the family. And hey, if I can afford what I want why should I put a gift burden for me on them...?

In fact, I've (gently) expressed my wish to family members to please - NOT buy me presents. Yes, I'm in the enviable status of having most of what I want...except for that obscure island in the Caribbean...

I used to go through the exercise most do, i.e., trying to decode what my loved ones want and hoping I can get it for them. Then going through the exercise of finding it - whatever that may entail. That exercise is exhausting and one I'm no longer willing to go through. And, for years now I haven't...hooray!

The solution: I install relatively large amounts of cash in an envelope for each family member and they can use it to buy whatever the heck they want...

If any of what I've said sounds boastful, it's not. It's now where I am in life.

The beginning of life was being homeless (hitchhiking the country as a child with my father) for many years, i.e., sleeping under over passes, in abandoned cars, spending the night in Salvation Army transient lodges with the very poor. Later working in carnivals/hired as haying hands/working as dishwashers/backups in restaurant kitchens, and well you get the idea, a somewhat Dickensian start in life... then years of blue collar work, then corporate management, and finally much, much better ...

So, what's on my Christmas list?

Happiness/Health for all my loved ones.

Motorcycle luggage, motorcycle touring gloves, tools, baby stuff, and already bought myself a fire pit from my buddy with a metal fab company.

:iagree: The things I want are usually expensive and not many would be willing to spend that much on me.
