Black Friday
Hmmm, only a half dozen "New Posts" since last night? The stores must be full of licensed gunslingers, eh?

Re: Black Friday
Nah. We're just all sleeping off the tryptophan still.

Re: Black Friday
I didn’t hear of any LGS having Black Friday sales. I guess business is god enough without ‘em.

It may not be a bad idea, considering:The stores must be full of licensed gunslingers, eh?
Black Friday 2012 Fights
And the day is still young

Re: Black Friday
When did this Black Friday thing get started? I don't ever remember wanting to get up and go shopping the day after Thanksgiving.
I got a PM and the name has been around many years. I guess I just wasn't paying attention. BTW, I really dislike crowds. The thought of hordes of people fighting over stuff that's "on sale" is repugnant to me.

Several years ago, when my son was still in college, my wife sent me to a Wally-word piranha feed to get a VCR for our son. I set the Alarm for 3:30 am and was at the store by 4:00 where I discovered that I was way late! I could see the stack of VCR inside the store. Doing a quick calculation on the number of units in the pile and my place in line, I decided to wait it out.
I'm not going into all of the detail, but there came I point when I realized that unless I turned around and immediately left, I was most likely going to spend time in jail. It was days before the anger subsided enough for me to talk about it. My wife, who usually probes me on things like this, just let it lay. She swore she'd never send me out on that mission again. And in the 10 years or so since then, she hasn't. There is no deal worth going through that again.
Some friends asked us a few days ago if we were going to hit the "Black Friday" rush. My wife's eyes got big and she said, "I'll never send Guy out to that again. Especially now that he has a gun."
Good point. If for some reason I were to decide to try that again, (Say slugs crawled into my ears and ate my brain) I'd sure have to leave the guns home.

Never done it myself. A few of the women I work with do. I don't know of any guys that do. It's been going on for at least 20 years I think. For one woman I used to work with it was practically like a sport. She, her mom, and two sisters would plan out their route and what stores they were going to hit and get up around 0200 to eat breakfast, drink coffee, and start preparing to go out. I always thought that was just crazy.WildBill wrote:When did this Black Friday thing get started? I don't ever remember wanting to get up and go shopping the day after Thanksgiving.

I think for some folks (mostly women that I know of) this is like the Superbowl. A couple of ladies my wife used to work with looked forward to this all year. Like the ladies you talk about, they had a strategy worked weeks in advance.C-dub wrote:Never done it myself. A few of the women I work with do. I don't know of any guys that do. I suppose they could say the same about those of us who've gotten up before dawn just to go sit in a deer stand or duck blind in the freezing cold for several hours...C-dub wrote:Never done it myself. Oh,there's a little bit of nuts in there, but not nearly on the same level.TexasCajun wrote:I suppose they could say the same about those of us who've gotten up before dawn just to go sit in a deer stand or duck blind in the freezing cold for several hours...C-dub wrote:Never done it myself.
