I was riding my motorcycle to work today.... a large black dog ran at my bike and tried to bite me
I hit the throttle and out ran the dog.... As soon as I got a safe distance I used my cell phone to
call the Animal control ............Would I have been justified if I had shot the dog????????????

I used the same old trick I have been using for years slow down a little let the dog get close then accelerate hard.
This throws the dog off and puts the MUTT behind you then simply out run the dog. This works most of the time
However there are some exceptions

Why is it that every one wants to know about shooting dogs? IANAL, and IMO a jury of your Texas CHL Forum peers would give you 99 years in the state pen for shooting their dog. If you can outrun it on your motorcicle why would you stop and shoot the dog?

Although I recently sold my latest bike I have been riding for over 35 years. I'm not crazy stupid with skills, but I don't think you would ever have the time to draw and shoot before the dog would be on you in a situation like this and remain on your bike. The easiest, and best, thing to do IMHO would be just what you did.
