Chrono results for my 125 gr .38 spcl

As I have mentioned here before, I went through several different powders and loads to come up with my favorite "light" Challenge Load.

I use a Berry's plated 125gr http://www.berrysmfg.com/product-i14484 ... gr_FP.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; over 3.7 grains of Trailboss.

Had it chronographed yesterday. After 3 shots, E was 28fps, M was 700fps, and S was 14fps

I am very pleased with this load, it is VERY accurate out of my S&W R8, soft shooting, but not so slow you have to wait to hear the plates clang.

I didn't test any other loads as I didn't know my bud was setting up his Chronograph , I was just there to shoot steel.

My old Dillon SDB seems to be loading pretty consistent so that is even better.

Funny thing is, I have shot about 4000 rounds so far with this load, and I am so used to it that I can tell if there is the slightest variance in power. It is rare, but it happens.

Wow...I bought 2k of the same bullets several months ago and was wanting to use trail boss also.
Plus I have an elcheapo Lee .358 SWC 105gn mold I was wanting to try the same powder with for plinking.
I have not worked up anything with either bullet yet.
Just have not been ready to play with it yet, but the info is great. Thanks.

I just need to take some of my irons outta the fire and get after it...

Don, I tried coming up with light loads using Clays, Tightgoup, Universal, and it actually got dangerous because of the lack of volume when reducing loads with those powders. I am tickled pink with the Trailboss.

The 3.7 grains is about the best combination I could find for speed and accuracy. I liked 3.9 grains too, however in my mind I am faster with the 3.7. If you like hitting a little harder 3.9 might be good. With this bullet I am running an OAL of 1.415

Put this iron in the fire, this load is way fun to shoot.

I have become a big fan of Trail Boss myself. I use it for my "light loads" in .38 spl, .357 mag and .44 mag.

Oh I'm GOING to use the 5 pounds I have....I think its a great powder for what you and I want to use it for.
I have had the powder for a very long time without trying it out, I just found a good deal on it and bought his stock at a small shop.
I have read about people using it even in 45acp's. Suppose to work great in low pressure loads?

TB was developed to take up more space, small loads of clays is not good...I've been down that path some.

Like I said, I have a bunch of stuff going on and really want to devote the most time I can to developing a good load for a few calibers. Mostly plinking stuff.
I like 38 special's very much, I load 357 brass to 38sp. loads a lot for messing around with targets and such.
The trick is very good labels and not mixing ammo up. I have a system that has worked so far
Too bad I don't have a way of color coding the brass without sharpies and such.
But I'm fine.
