So city hall is posted and has metal dectecting devices. Since it is a city owned facility is appropiate that during non-elected public meetings that it remains posted?

I find it strange that I can carry in the capital, but not city hall....

maybe boxes of old court files are stored in one?
or ... boxes of stored Court Christmas decorations ?

I find the term vague ambiguous and overly broad.

I can find know notable reason for it other then when they have council meetings, etc.

The other buildings they use are not posted, so I will continue my quest to find a notable reason.

I went to city hall in Austin to vote in November and was carrying a 5" fixed blade knife. I was a little concerned with the "NO GUNS" sign. I spoke to a policeman outside and he said, well as long as it isn't a big hunting knife (which it is, although it is the legal limit). I went through security anyways and told them I had a weapon. They just told me to make sure it was concealed, no problem.

I have done the same thing at the Capitol and they just let me through. They have given me some strange looks before but always let me through.

I work for City of Austin just not downtown. Had to go there a few times for various meetings. There are no court related activities there. The posting is bogus and I find it terribly aggravating.

What's worse is that the last two times I went there I walked right through the metal detectors, set them off, waived my city badge, and got waived-through without so much as a second look.

City policy prevents me from carrying on the job, so there were no weapons on me. As little as I like the rules I will obey them like 99.9% of CHL'ers.

Write a letter to Marc Ott, city manager. He has the power and authority to change this situation.
