I once lived in California for a few years in the mid-90's. Beautiful state with some great scenery, but I have no idea how people can afford to continue living there. Home and apartment prices are outrageous.

As for the Native Texan remark, I'm sure there are some Comanches, Wichitas and Caddos who probably would've said something similar to Sam Houston (native of Virginia and re-knowned Texas Founding Father), Jim Bowie (native of Kentucky) and Davy Crockett (native of Tennessee).

Let's not forget the 183 "guests" who defended the Alamo, alongside of the 6 "native" Texans.

Yep, and I almost forgot another "guest" - Texas Founding Father Stephen F. Austin, born in Virginia and raised in Missouri. I'm sure he and the other "guests" from the Alamo subscribed to another's sig line that reads, "Texan by CHOICE, not by accident of birth." And of course there's also Yankee-born George W. Bush, our former Governor born in Connecticut.

The irony of the "Texas native - guest" statement is that it's in a thread underscoring the business restrictions supposedly in place in California and the effort by a supposedly "freer" and business-friendy Texas as it tries its best to woo out-of-state tech companies to move and relocate here! I'm sure those companies would love to hear how they'd be viewed only as out-of-state "guests" as they consider relocating and hiring "native" Texans!

Hey, now - calm down. And quit swearing, too, mind the 10-yr old daughter rule here.

The guys aren't talking roadblocks - just expressing a preference to not see a flood of liberals into the state, who would then try and turn Texas into the same blighted land from where they came. Same as locusts.
Appologies AndyC
I agree buddy. I wasn't born in Cali, I just couldn't stand it anymore.
Moby, I don't know if your comment about wanting to stop people from moving freely around the country was directed at me or not, but if it was, recall that I'm the one who said that there is no constitutional way to stop it. Opened/Closed Texas borders only have any kind of meaning in the mythical secession scenario, so it will never happen. FWIW, even though I moved here from California, I wasn't born there either. I was born overseas in Casablanca, Morocco.......but not in the Casba.

knotquiteawake, that's actually our long-term goal too, but unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you're looking at it) it isn't going to happen before my (88 year old) mother passes on, because it is my share of her estate which will be paying for it.........and I want her to live a long long time.

Unless you were born here, you are a guest. Treat it accordingly. :txflag:
Careful with the 'Native Texan' stuff. Unless you're a Native American you could be subject to the same criticism...it's what you bring more than where you were born.
I have been a guest for 73 years, how long have you been a 'native'?

Like they say "I got here as fast as I could" from just across the Red River...

I made up the deficit however, my kids are eighth generation Texans and I sleep and play on 250 acres of 'since 1848' family land...
