One of the quickest ways to spot a fake is a distinct focus on the subject in question before the event, a shaky camera during the event (to cover up flaws) and immediately looking away (toward the ground in this case) after the event to avoid more hours of editing and rendering.

If you couple that with questionable (usually awesome) subject matter, you can pick them out in a hurry

they showed this on our evening news. Apparently these kids were taking a "viral video" class really??? it's an animation ! It's really good! I gather it took them the full 7 weeks from concept to completion. I guess they must have gotten an good grade, they turned it in yesterday and hit the news tonight
