Many will discount what he has to say, and continue the.. No guns at all = safety chant.. but all we can do is provide the information.

Unfortunately, people have not learned from history. In many cases, they do not WANT to learn from history because it doesn't allow for the histrionics. It is a fact of history that the Federal government allowed the funding for school security to lapse

Perhaps this incident was a wakeup call to all of the adolescent thinkers who clung to the belief that it could never happen to them, to their kids and their schools. The money wasted on failed solar businesses and industry bailouts would have gone a long way toward making our schools safer. Then again, there is the denial thing.

Ultimately, it is the School Board's job to plan and budget security measures. Not the Federal Government. If your budget falls short in one income area, you shuffle priorities to fund what you deem most important.

I call bull on any school official that wants to blame state or federal government for this.

That's especially true in Texas when you look at football budgets. The money is there. The question is how they choose to spend it, based on their true priorities in life. That goes for many parents too.

Ultimately, it is the Federal government that has so many mandates, requirements that have to be funded that there might not be much wiggle room for the local board to exercise much judgment.

I remember very vividly the old ranchers in my hill country school district more than 60 years ago fretting about the intrusion of Federal money into the district. They needed the money to fund new buildings but were scared to death of the controls they knew would follow. Those old birds weren't as dumb as they looked, it turns out.

I advocate closing public schools and giving parents a voucher to spend on whatever education for their kids they choose. We need not get into THAT debate, but rethinking Federal control might be a good start.

That's especially true in Texas when you look at football budgets. The money is there. The question is how they choose to spend it, based on their true priorities in life. That goes for many parents too.

The money may not be that important if schoolboard, state,county and city law enforcement, with the local colleges with a police program would get together. They could train volunteer teachers and administrators with a CHL how to protect themselves and their students. About 5 times a year, enact a scenario in each of the schools to evaluate the success.
