a rocket launcher?

Post by RPB »

A one-day gun buyback event in Los Angeles on Wednesday gathered 2,037 firearms, including 75 assault weapons and a rocket launcher,

"These were serious gun -- semi-automatic weapons, guns that have no place on the streets of Los Angeles or any other city.
wait, which California gun store sells rocket launchers ?

"Those are weapons of war, weapons of death," Beck said, motioning to a selection of military-style weapons on a display table. "These are not hunting guns. These are not target guns. These are made to put high-velocity, extremely deadly, long-range rounds downrange as quickly as possible, and they have no place in our great city."

Beck acknowledged that the weapons would not be checked for connections to crimes before being melted down.
So the gun someone stole from you, they'll get paid by the city for it (city govt fences stolen property ...) and they won't check to see if it's stolen and return it to you. Instead, just reward criminals for their burglaries and repeat next year.

Who knows? Most likely stolen from a military base around here, I would think.

Aren't those one shot devices?
Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

The idiot who accepted it probably thought it was some attachment that turns a rifle into a machine gun.

In reality, it was most likely just the outer tube or whatever that grandpa kept in the attic as a memento from WWII.

They probably had to import it from Nevada.

I was going to say that it was probably a dummy/training version of something...probably wasn't anything serious to speak of, but they blew it out of proportion anyway.

:iagree:
I"d think probably outer portion bought at Army Navy Surplus, and "sold there" for the shock-value publicity of how successful it went.

If he thinks 300-400 meters is, wait, maybe he thinks an AR-15 shoots accurately 1000-1500 meters.

I saw the photo on Facebook of the LAPD muckety muck holding it up triumphantly. Turns out it was an AT4 trainer and it even has the word TRAINER clearly marked on it in the photo. Oops.

Two thoughts.

1: As many of you guessed, yes those were just inert disposable tubes left over from a used ONE TIME,, ONE SHOT light anti tank weapon.
The expended tubes are not "re-loadable" are not reusable as part of a weapon system. They are about as usable as a used condom. And likely less dangerous. Upon use, dunnage is turned in to the ammo supply point. Units can request to redraw the used and inert disposable launchers to use as training devices. Other inert launchers are turned in to more advanced trainers, also issued to units from the Ammo supply point to units, with all the same security and paperwork required of real ammo. The remaining inert launchers are disposed of.....
They get lost in the system, not turned over properly, dropped off of a commanders property book, turned in by the unit.. end up in someones garage as a memento... right, wrong or what every,,,the end state is.... they are not a weapon, can not be used as a weapon and pose NO danger to anyone.

2: The Video pans across a table full of very weapons... and they do not say THOSE weapons were taken in the "BUY BACK" program, but that sure is what they want you to think...

Do those weapons look like what we hear reported, see turned in a typical buy back report?

The same police chief showing the same device following their last "buyback" 7 months ago. Seems pretty fishy to me.

How come no LEO ever comments about these buy backs? What that the guy in the photos comments about the training tube? I can see the media running wild on this topic. What's next, claymores and gernades in the buy back?

No, I believe that is the "shoulder thing that goes whoosh." The identification of the "shoulder thing that goes up" still eludes all knowledgeable firearms experts, gun owners, and the legislator that proposed banning them in the first place. ;-)
