FWIW, the NRA "insurance" is a reimbursment type program. You pay out front, then if you win, they reimburse with some stipulations I believe.

Re: Insurance
You might ask your homeowners' insurance agent about a liability addendum?
Re: Insurance
You might use caution about this in case the insurance agent happens to be misguided, or the carrier is.Oldgringo wrote:You might ask your homeowners' insurance agent about a liability addendum?
There have been worries about USAA, given that they have signs forbidding guns in their offices, etc., etc. It might be good to approach the subject obliquely, test the waters etc so you don't get a cancellation notice in the mail, or something.
Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

I have yet to read of a prepaid insurance carrier for gun/self-defense that a majority of the knowledgable folks here endorse.

Re: Insurance
I was the only one in my class that did not sign up. According to posts I've seen here and other forums, at least half the people in many other classes did sign up for [pre-paid legal]....I'd like to hear from them as well.Abraham wrote:I have yet to read of a prepaid insurance carrier for gun/self-defense that a majority of the knowledgable folks here endorse.

Re: Insurance
one type of insurance you DO want....after you have several guns, get an additional rider to your homeowners insurance to cover your guns, typical homeowners insurance only covers about $1200 - 3000, check yours out, you will need to increase that at some point.

Re: Insurance
After I took my CHL class, I reviewed my home owner's policy to see if there were any holes that I should be concerned about. Next year, I'll be inquiring about increased coverages for personal property theft as well as for personal injury. But that only covers me at home. I've researched a lot of the readily available "insurance" plans out there and I wasn't 100% impressed with any of them. But I eventually went with [Pre-paid legal service] for the following reasons (which are important to me, your needs may be different or weighed differently): you enter into an agreement with an actual law firm instead of contracting with a service that will find a lawyer for you, you can contact an actual lawyer for general advice outside of an emergency situation, it's not a reimbursement plan, they will represent you all the way through trial (if necessary), and they will assist in retrieving your weapon from law enforcement post-investigation/trial.

Re: Insurance
This is correct. Texas law does not allow one to insure their intentional unlawful acts. This means no insurance company can issue a "traditional" policy that would provide counsel.68blackbird wrote:Taurus.40 wrote:I believe the NRA has some kind of insurance for a CHLer.
