Nook For Magazine Subscriptions Good/Bad?

Post by Abraham »

My eyes prefer reading with an electronic device like the Nook I currently own.

Why?

Because I can maximize the text - Can't easily do that with anything printed on paper. Even with reading glasses, reading printed paper has become an eye straining effort.

Yesterday, I downloaded this months issue of "Guns & Ammo" magazine.

I found myself reading articles I would've skipped in the past as they were too big a chore to read. Prior to downloading, I had to triage the content of the paper printed magazine, when in fact I wanted to read more, but couldn't afford the effort...

However, the downloaded format forces me to read almost everything before I can decide what I'm really interested in reading, if that makes any sense...? There's no efficient, quick scanning option. Laboriously, electronically paging forward and backward is awkward and frustrating.

So, is there a better device for reading magazines that will allow me, rather like looking at a paper printed magazine the option of skipping over say the table of contents and get right into articles?

I'm probably clear as mud, but maybe some of you will understand my point...

If so, please advise if you know of a more efficient electronic reader designed for efficient/electronic magazine reading. I fully expect there isn't, but I'm often surprised by the more knowledgeable among us.

P.S. My Nook is perfect for reading books.

Thanks

Odd, no comments.

Just the other day, someone here was surprised that others still read the printed word on paper...

I thought they were suggesting most everyone reads electronically now or do they, just not on gizmos like the Nook or Kindle, but instead on something else?

I'll comment....

Years ago, we used to get the newspaper but stopped in favor of online news. I think I am right in between the generational lines that likes the black fingers with a cup a of coffee or just straight digital. I still read print and most of the print, I have the option for paper, online or both. I find myself, reading print only in certain rooms of the house.

I don't own a nook but I do a Xoom and Galaxy SIII. I primarily use my laptop and my SIII for my reading. One of my favorite apps for reading what interests me is called Pulse.

I also use Google reader for some rags.

I think you'd find something with a larger screen, like an Ipad (not the mini, but the original) would be a bit better for your scanning - it's enough larger that you should be able to read the headlines, topic intro without having to read the whole thing. I received one as an early Christmas present and can't believe how much use I've gotten out of it now (and my wife used to say that my Nook Color was my constant companion).

I can comfortably set the size of the letters to about the same size I had set for my Nook Color, and wind up with almost twice the amount of words on the page with reference to the Nook. Can ya guess which reader's my favorite, now? (Plus, I can read both Nook and Kindle books on the Ipad, now).
