Although tragic that the officers were injured, proves that the draconion exploits of the Bloombergs of the world are wrong. The criminals will al;ways have access to guns.

How do you move illegally between cars? Why is moving between cars illegal? If moving between cars is illegal why does the capability to do so still exist? I am not taking the BG's side but this little portion of the story baffles me.

They simply need to quickly pass a new law stating that criminals must obey laws.
That should do it.

From the article " The mayor has been a vocal advocate for tighter gun control."

Doesn't NYC have some of the tightest gun control in the country already?!?!?!?!? Again, criminal will have guns even if others do not!

In NYC, it is illegal to move between subway cars when the train is not parked at a station. The coupling area between the cars is wide open with just small safety chains to keep you on the platforms between cars. It's very unsafe. When the train is in a station, you can move between them. When the trains are in motion, it can be a pretty bumpy ride - and if you're in between cars, it'd be very easy to fall off.

This part of the story makes perfect sense to someone who rode the NYC subway system for 14 years.

{edit} btw, just because it's illegal doesn't mean that people aren't constantly doing it. However, because it's illegal, it's a good source of probable cause. {/edit}

Each subway car has a door at each end, which facilitates using them in combination with any other, but it has been against the law for decades to use those doors to pass from car to car. NYCity subways do not have platforms or corridors to allow passage between cars, which is limited to "authorized personnel."
