sounds like me in 2009 looking for 9mm everydayflechero wrote:I had a conversation with a walmart employee that I know- he said they are only getting a couple boxes in every couple days, where they used to get ammo in every night. I don't think he was lying- I've known him a while. He said there are about 8-9 guys that swing in every morning on their way to work checking to see if any came in. (if so they buy all 22, 9, 45, 223, that gets delivered- no limit)
I think if you are fortunate enough to live in a specific area without a bunch of people that shoot then you may have a walmart with ammo nearby. I think all the rural walmarts are picked clean.
Is walmart holding out on ammo?

I had a recent conversation with a WalMart employee too. They had almost no ammo in the cases. She went into the back and came out with two small cardboard boxes of ammo- she said that that was all they got in today. She opened them in front of me and there was a paltry nothing that I wanted in them. I have purchased ammo from her in the past and she is not hiding stuff in the back. There just is nothing. You can do an internet search and have them notify you by email when something is back in stock. Do a google search such as "Colt LE6920 at Walmart" and you can see if they have any at your local store. Probably not, at least for now, and they supposedly will notify you when in stock. I don't know if they really do as NOTHING is in stock now. Nobody beats WalMart prices when they have stuff. We have an Academy in my city but they aren't any better right now and more expensive. This too shall pass (I hope). Was getting into reloading but guess what, everybody is out of equipment, primers, everything. I have to order by mail for everything or drive a long drive.

Meyerpark Walmart here in Houston has a sign posted with a 6 box limit.CoffeeNut wrote:They should just put up a sign like the one at the Dick's at La Cantera which said "Due to increased demand customers may only purchase 6 boxes of ammo at a time. Thank you for your understanding." The shelves were empty anyway and I don't buy ammo from Dick's but I was desperate.

Was there ammo? .223 or 9mm?

I went to that store on New Year's Eve and they were empty of almost everything. I didn't see that sign at the time, but I have had one of the employees tell me there's a 6 box limit before, several months ago.
When I went that day, I decided to divert myself from the sporting goods counter because there were 3 or 4 unsavory types oogling the ammo cabinet. Last thing I wanted was one of those creeps, or worse yet all of them, following me out of the store or home.

Not much. No 9mm, .45, .22lr, .223, 30-30. A couple of boxes of .40 including some zombie rounds from Hornady.Ericstac wrote:Dad24GreatKids wrote:Meyerpark Walmart here in Houston has a sign posted with a 6 box limit.CoffeeNut wrote:They should just put up a sign like the one at the Dick's at La Cantera which said "Due to increased demand customers may only purchase 6 boxes of ammo at a time. Is that the limit per customer or the total they have on the shelves?Dad24GreatKids wrote:Meyerpark Walmart here in Houston has a sign posted with a 6 box limit.CoffeeNut wrote:They should just put up a sign like the one at the Dick's at La Cantera which said "Due to increased demand customers may only purchase 6 boxes of ammo at a time. Re: Is walmart holding out on ammo?
I was reading about gun control and one of the ideas that the White House was pursuing was making deals with gun retailers.
"They include rallying support from Wal-Mart Stores Inc and other gun retailers for measures that would benefit their businesses, the Post said."
So just what under the table deals are they going to make with Walmart? Decreased regulations in other areas? I hope that Walmart and "other gun retailers" understand that I will not spend a penny in their stores if they support any gun control measures.

Re: Is walmart holding out on ammo?
The person at my local Walmart advised me she's rationing her sale of 9mm ammo, (when she finally gets some) in order that guys like me can get a box or two, not a case or ten...
Hoarders be darned...

Re: Is walmart holding out on ammo?
Just got back from the local Wal-mart a little while ago. No 9mm in stock whatsoever...but I did manage to get two boxes of FMJ .38 Special practice ammo. And with that added in to what I already had, looks like I've got enough for a "revolver day" at the range soon! Its hit or miss, but you just have to check and see what they have when you go.

Where are all of the .22LR's? Everybody knows you can't stop a bad guy; let alone, a zombie with a .22.
Re: Is walmart holding out on ammo?
I picked up some .45 the other day. Two employees were talking about ammo. They said that the warehouses they get ammo from we're out of stock on most of it. No 9 or 223 but they did have a little 762x39 left. I should have bought it and gouged someone like everyone else seems to be doing but I left it for someone that needs it. Guess I need to get a 22 mag because that was all they had in 22 besides some shorts.

Re: Is walmart holding out on ammo?
All this talk of "ammo gouging" has me thinking. We should have government regulate ammo prices to protect the folks in our society who don't think about possible ammo shortages as quick as others.
There should be laws regulating how much ammo a person can buy so that a person who can't afford to buy as much when it is in supply has an equal and fair chance at ammo.
The whole free market system is just wrong!
