Received message from my Representative

Post by K.Mooneyham »

And here it is:
Dear Mr. Mooneyham:

Thank you for sending me your thoughts regarding the horrific tragedy in Newtown, CT. As a mother and grandmother, as well as a former teacher, this senseless violence has affected me deeply.

To see the lives of 20 children taken, along with the lives of some of their teachers and mentors is absolutely heartbreaking. This kind of senseless violence has left our nation justifiably shaken and outraged. It has left us all searching for answers as to how something this awful could happen anywhere in our country. We are united in sorrow and in our resolve to prevent tragedies like this one from ever happening again.

To do that, we need to have a national conversation to understand what we can do to prevent future tragedies like this one. For starters, we should look at making sure that our existing gun laws are fully enforced and carefully consider changes to those laws that protect both our constitutional rights and public safety.

We also need to ensure that there is adequate access to mental health care. I have supported legislation, such as the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act, that works to ensure those with mental illness have access to affordable treatment services. We need to discuss ways to expand access and treatment for those with mental illness and their families.

I believe we need to find a common sense solution for those gun owners who do have family members with mental illnesses. In many of the more recent tragedies, the weapons used to harm others have been obtained from family members who legally purchased the firearm. Whether it be more in-depth education for the family members or more extensive background checks, we need to find ways to ensure the safety and health of everyone.

Thank you again for writing me. Know that I will consider what you have said as we look for answers. It is good to hear from you, and I hope you will continue to keep me informed on the issues that are important to you.

Sincerely,

Kay Granger
Member of Congress
While I can appreciate the law-and-order stance, I am not very happy about what I consider a lackluster form letter. Yeah, I know its going to be a form letter, but it didn't even address standing up for our Second Amendment rights as Americans and Texans. In fact, she uses the same tired talk about "common sense" in regards to firearms laws that not-so-hardcore Democrats tend to use. I hope that those on here who read this, who may have some contacts, will point this out to the Representative. I voted for her twice as the Republican candidate...but I'm thinking that maybe next time, in the primary, I'm going to have to vote for a challenger if they display a bit more backbone in regards to the Second Amendment.

if it says "common sense" or "loophole" it was written by a hoplophobe or Anti-gun person or Liberal or Democrat. They overuse/misuse/abuse those terms.

Any time I see those terms I know that person needs to be invited to go shoot at a family range ... because that seems to work, otherwise ... I don't try to teach a pig to sing ..it wastes my time and annoys the pig. (I wish I could remember that better though)

You might want to Google Kay Granger. She is the Republican representative from the Fort Worth area and has a pretty conservative record. Just sayin..............

Received same reply from Congresswoman Granger.

I also noted that she was one of the Republicans who voted for the Hurricane Sandy pork ladened bill :???:

I sat next to a conservative Republican retired school teacher in a doctor's office yesterday morning who told me it was nuts to allow guns in schools ... some people even though conservative Republicans, just need education in different areas than they have had. Birds of a feather flock together- If they start using Lib/Dem terminology, then the mud rubbed off the dirty bird next to them and perhaps distancing themselves from the rest of the flock from where they picked it up would be good. People are influenced by the company they keep.

If it concedes that a "national conversation" is necessary, watch out!

No "national conversation" is necessary. Hold parents responsible for whom they make their guns accessible to, and enforce existing laws. That's all that is needed. You cannot make society "safer" by restricting someone's freedoms. Liberty is not without risk. Those who would surrender one to eliminate the other are not worthy of the name of "American" or the appellation of "citizen."

Here's what I got fro mine, Kenny Marchant"

Thank you for contacting me about potential threats to your Second Amendment rights. It is very important when considering issues to know the views and concerns of my constituents. I appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts on this matter.

The shooting that took place at Sandy Hook Elementary school on December 14, 2012 was a very tragic event, and I extend my heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of all the victims. My sincerest thoughts are with the victims and their loved ones as Congress tries to find a way to prevent senseless acts of violence such as this do not occur. Many opponents of firearms turn to gun control measures that could limit the freedoms of all Americans. The problem our society is facing is not the absence of law, as we already have significant regulation of firearms, but a lack of respect for human life. Additional gun control measures will have little impact on criminal activity and will have a significant adverse effect on law-abiding citizens.

I strongly support the Second Amendment and have worked to protect this core right of Americans. Because of my work to protect this right, I have been awarded a lifetime National Rifle Association rating of an "A." The Second Amendment clearly delineates the right of citizens to own firearms in defense of themselves, family, property, and nation. To deny law-abiding citizens these rights in any way would be unacceptable. I will continue to stand against any attempt to curtail the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens, and urge my colleagues to do the same.

Again, thank you for sharing your concerns with me. I greatly value your opinion and encourage you to contact me with your thoughts and questions.
