Noticed Weird Email condition
My yahoo email account always shows unread messages in a different color than unread messages. Starting about 2 weeks ago, I have noticed once a day all my emails turn from unread to "read". It is always late in the evening between times when I am signed out and then sign back in later. I don't know why this is happening, but I hope it isn't because someone uninvited (insert big brother here) is snooping in my email. They won't find anything but boring stuff there, but I have been posting a lot of comments on media stories in the past few weeks that are pro-second amendment. Has anyone else noticed anything like this with their email?

I would change your password immediately if you have not done so already.TexasGal wrote:My yahoo email account always shows unread messages in a different color than unread messages. No stranger than the CHL instructor who said DPS called him with information on how to renew his certification after they read his post asking for that info on this forum. He was not using his actual name on the forum and had not shared his contact info on the forum.

I'm doubtful that the DPS has super secret access to all our online activities.
The thread you reference is viewtopic.php?f=18&t=62041" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The person in question is in Arlington and said his certificate expired in December, 2011. That's plenty enough information for DPS to find him in their system and call him. There can't be that many instructors in Arlington with a certificate that expired in December, 2011.

I was being sarcastic. Where is the sarcasm smilie? I thought the use of the shocked smilie relayed my intent but I guess not.TheArmedFarmer wrote:I'm doubtful that the DPS has super secret access to all our online activities.

Re: Noticed Weird Email condition
I had an email sent from my email to my girlfriends email and I check my mail. The sent email is not in the sent email box..luckily I was already making a new email due to too much spam so I deleted the account that day.
I'd say if it happens again; make a new email account.

If your phone fetches your Yahoo mail, depending on the settings, it will show "read" when you log onto the PC account, even if you haven't read it. Mine used to do this.TexasGal wrote:My yahoo email account always shows unread messages in a different color than unread messages. Ah, maybe that's it. I will ditch the phone link. Thanks. Dang, but with all the stuff going on, I didn't know what to think.

Re: Noticed Weird Email condition
Yahoo Mail on an iPhone (not sure about Android) is IMAP. IMAP stands for "Internet message access protocol" and is a synchronous type of mail account. You can have 100 devices (combination computers, smart phones, etc) all checking the same email account. If you read an email on one of them, it's marked read on them all. If you delete a message from one of them, it's deleted on them all.
Well, at least it should be. It also depends on the device. Blackberry devices, for example, do NOT access the account directly (unless something has changed in the last few years), but instead goes through an internal (to RIM) proxy which accesses the account for you.
And then there are, of course, times when a device just doesn't act as it should. In those cases a restart, reset, or reinstall (of the app/OS) may be in order.

I would be much less concerned about "big brother" and much more concerned about "significant other." This is from past experience.TexasGal wrote:My yahoo email account always shows unread messages in a different color than unread messages. It's true that Yahoo is IMAP. However, your messages shouldn't get "marked as read" until they are actually read on a device. If your device (phone) goes and gets your mail, it won't mark them as read until they are actually opened.

Re: Noticed Weird Email condition
These were not read on either my phone or my computer that were showing up as "read". There is nothing in my email that is "secret" but I still don't like the idea of anyone snooping. A few weeks ago, my debit card was compromised and someone in a foreign country tried to buy airfare with it. My bank caught it and declined the charge, but I still have no clue where/how the number showed up in the hands of someone thousands of miles away. I know there is no real security for anything these days.
