More liberal government run amok

Post by VMI77 »

An Indiana couple faces jail time for nursing a near-dead deer back to health, in apparent violation of the state’s Department of Natural Resources rules for returning wild animals to the forest.

State conservation officers recently visited the home and discovered the deer, according to ABC New
So the State has enough money to randomly visit homes, looking for wounded wild animals being nursed back to health?????? Probably not. Probably some "do good" neighbor knew about the situation and turned them in.

In the larger picture, this is nothing more than the government at all levels working to make sure that there is a way to make every citizen into a criminal. There are enough laws on the books that not one of us is blameless any longer unless we elect to sit inside of our homes, vegging in front of the TV. Victimless crimes always get my dander up.

There might be an issue if the couple had a habit of picking up stray animals and keeping them at home. But obviously the State conservation officials would have preferred this animal to simply die in the wild of its wounds. Regulation is done for regulation sake.

That is pretty messed up. I have seen deer that were rescued by ranchers before. They are often suckers for hunters. There was deer on our place that had a red collar with a bell on it. She would walk right up to us. My son and I let her lick on a candy cane while we held it. She was out there for a couple years and then disappeared. Rumor had it some jerk shot her.

Regardless, that couple saved a wounded animal. Intentions were good. The law against having a wild animal are there for reasons beyond good intentions. It stinks but sometimes one is caught up in a crime while doing what they feel is morally correct.

To make my point, there are laws against feeding alligators in Florida. Feeding a poor starving alligator seems well intentioned.

On another front. I knew a guy who's wife found a baby wild hog. It was sickly. She felt sorry for it and nursed it back to health. The guy got tired of the baby hog messing up the yard. It was maybe 30 lbs at the time. He whacked it in the head with a hatchet and we ate wild pig at the deer lease that weekend. His wife never knew what he did. That was some good eating.

Sure do. Some of the best tasting beef I've had in a long time came from one of the steers we just slaughtered. No pink slime "cr_p" in my house. Just some good grass fed beef.

I only ate one or two bites. My son ate a whole slab of the ribs. :coolgleamA: I am innocent.... I didn't do it... Oh man... I almost feel guilty and this was fifteen years ago.

My brother is much older than me. Back in the 40s when he was a kid, he had a pet duck that followed him all around. One day, our grandparents served the duck for dinner.

   they fed him his own duck?? I am surprised your brother didn't grow up to be a liberal. The difference is that the pig was not MY family pet. :smilelol5: "rlol"

I think that's illegal under Cap & Trade unless you purchase enough carbon credits to offset your abnormally high TV usage. Also, with socialized health care undoubtedly on its way, it might not be legal to have such an unhealthy lifestyle.

It happened before I was born, but the way I heard it, he wasn't too happy about it when he found out, and held a grudge for a long time....but he's definitely not a liberal. In fact, if there are any liberals in our more immediate family, then they're pretty good at acting conservative. I don't know of any liberal or anti-gun people on my or my wife's side of the family.

I was chanel surfing the other night and came upon a show called horders. There was this old guy who had so much garbage in his home the city was going to condemn it. His story was of an abusive father. His siter did a interview and said that when he was a little boy, he had a pet rabbit. He loved little fluffy! His dad often cooked the family meals. One day after a huge meal the dad says to him, "So how was dinner?". The kid says it was great. The dad then says, "Great, because we just ate your rabbit". The horders sister said he never seemed right after that...LOL.

Glad your brother overcame... :txflag:
