The victim was ambushed by the shooters while getting out of the car in the parking lot, KDFW reports.

beat me to it
searched Kaufman
Apparently, even though Courts are statutorily off-limits, it had an advertisement like schools have with the no guns/drugs etc signs ... it had a "safe for criminal zone" sign

So a criminal seeing a 30.06 sign on a Courthouse, would assume persons walking to go into it, would be unarmed; much like a college student going into or exiting a building.viewtopic.php?f=7&t=188&p=764893&hilit=kaufman#p764893" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Kaufman County (35 miles southeast of Dallas) has its County Courthouse building improperly displaying a 30.06 sign.

GFZ? From what I have gathered, this happened in the parking lot. However, I believe that the ADA has the ability to carry in to the courthouse.

Re: Manhunt Underway After Shooting at TX Courthouse
But, most criminals seeing a 30.06 sign wouldn't know if an Asst Dist Atty could carry in Courthouse or not, and would assume any gun would be left in the car, so parking lots are disarmed victim zones, just like college campuses where one could carry, except if they are going to be going into/coming out of a buildingi8godzilla wrote:GFZ? Most criminals aren't real good students of the laws, ...until after caught and they utilize the Prison Library.

While I tend to agree that "gun free zones" may be inviting shooters, I wonder if there are any interviews with the perpetrators of these crimes that would confirm the thinking?

Not a gun free zone if in the parking lot.

Re: Manhunt Underway After Shooting at TX Courthouse
De facto.
If I have jury duty, I can't carry my gun into the courthouse and check it at the security checkpoint while I'm in the actual courtroom. I have to leave it in my car, making the parking lot effectively a GFZ for the good guys. It's like how the bill is called Campus Carry when it's not illegal to carry on a college campus, only in the buildings.
The bad guys don't care. This story proves that.

I agree that a GFZ building creates a GFZ in the parking lot for those going to and from the building.

I see how this is being labeled now and I agree that having to disarm before going to the building leaves you vulnerable.03Lightningrocks wrote:I agree that a GFZ building creates a GFZ in the parking lot for those going to and from the building.

In a perfect world, we would be allowed to carry to the building and then have a place inside we could lock up our weapons. I don't see that happening any time soon.

It's never going to happen if it requires a perfect world.03Lightningrocks wrote:Keith B wrote:I see how this is being labeled now and I agree that having to disarm before going to the building leaves you vulnerable.03Lightningrocks wrote:I agree that a GFZ building creates a GFZ in the parking lot for those going to and from the building.
