Late-arriving students

Post by MasterOfNone »

I heard a tale (second-hand) of an instructor that locks his door and will not allow a student who arrives late into the class. That seems odd, especially considering that many instructors I see are still getting students checked-in 15 minutes into the class. Do you accommodate late-arriving students? I always try to unless they are so late that they will be lost, and they have to make up the missed time.

Having only one incident of a student arriving late (she was lost and called for directions) I just waited for her to arrive before starting class. I can't say what I would do in other circumstances.

Locking the door is nothing more than instructor ego and business stupidity.

1 happy customer tells a couple friends.
1 unhappy and insulted customer will post it all over FB and review sites.

It's a business not high school. The man needs to act as if his customers
could possibly bring more. Of course assuming the late student wasn't an hour late.

Yea, I do the same as you. Life happens. Sounds like that instructor is a bit immature. I've had very few classes that run right at 10 hours, most are over that, so being a little late is not an issue.

I don't think it's a problem as long as you accurately report the hours for each student.
