EJJ,

Try the SA Gun Show, the first weekend of EVERY month at the
"convention center" at IH410 and Broadway, near the airport.

Schedule: http://saxetshows.com/_schedule.htm#loc

Don't expect to find any great bargains, but you can find bags of
loaded ammo for practice at reasonable prices.

I try to make it there (250 mile roundtrip for me) at least twice a year
mostly for primers and powder and bullets. Plus it is a way for the guys
out my way to get together and enjoy a day of gun stuff, and a stop at
Rudy's for good BBQ on the way home. Makes for a full day.

Regards,

Tom

CCI Blazer is pretty inexpensive and is good practice ammo. .38 reloads may or may not be any cheaper.

I don't trust "gun show reloads."

There are SOME places that sell "remanufactured" ammo (Black Hills comes to mind) which is done on a commercial basis, but most guys at gun shows are just cranking out reloads in their garage on a Dillon, and are probably using the absolute cheapest components they can find.

Quality control? HAH!

In MY guns, I'd feel MUCH safer using Blazer or bulk pack Winchester or Remington ammo from Wally World instead of gun show reloads.

Gunshow reloads.

I agree w/ HankB. Unknown reloads in a revolver are double dangerous. Too hot & blow something off. (thumb, eye, or at least swell a barrel.) In a revolver a light charge is even worse if it comes to the top during rapid fire drill. Pop & bullet lodge in barrel w/ 2nd round rapid fired behind it. Major danger. :o :( :x

I agree. I shoot my reloads only. Please spend the money for brass or factory ammo and then hook up with an experienced reloader and get started. The cost to get started is not as high as you might think. Instead of your next gun purchase, buy the reloading equipment. Buy and read, reread and read again the load manual of your choice. Each time you will glean information necessary to your reloading safety. Shoot often and you will enjoy the benefit of reloading. You will be glad you did.
