MN: Man charged with murder after randomly shooting at cars

Post by seamusTX »

In Oakdale, Minnesota (St. Paul surburb) Monday a man was arrested after allegedly shooting at occupied vehicles at random.

A 9-year-old boy was killed and two women were injured. One woman had a finger amputated. Several people in cars escaped injury but had their cars "riddled with bullets."

A 34-year-old man was arrested and charged with murder and other violent felonies. He reportedly confessed to police.

The man had no criminal record and no known history of mental illness.

The Minneapolis-St. Paul area is home to a large number of people who were refugees from Indochina (Vietnam, Cambodia, etc.), or their descendants.

From the article:
A loaded 9mm handgun.
A fanny pack full of bullets.
Two loaded magazines.
A backpack with more ammunition
and two large knives.

That, prosecutors say, is what Nhan Lap Tran carried when arrested minutes after a shooting spree left a 9-year-old boy dead and two people wounded Monday in Oakdale.

The arsenal was described Wednesday, Feb. 13, in Washington County District Court in a criminal complaint charging the Oakdale man with the attack.
Aresenals are now portable. :banghead:

From Dictionary.com
ar·se·nal/ˈɑrsənl, ˈɑrsnəl/ Show Spelled [ahr-suh-nl, ahrs-nuhl] Show IPA
noun
1. a place of storage or a magazine containing arms and military equipment for land or naval service.
2. a government establishment where military equipment or munitions are manufactured.
3. a collection or supply of weapons or munitions.
4. a collection or supply of anything; store: He came to the meeting with an impressive arsenal of new research data.
While technically correct, I would guess the differnce is that is wasn't an 'Impressive aresenal', just a plain one. :grumble

There's no longer any point complaining about this misuse of language. It's always an arsenal, a cache of weapons, a high-powered assault rifle, a high-capacity magazine, "cop-killer bullets," yada, yada.

I would only point out that this language often comes straight from the lips of police spokesmen, who often have their own agendas.
