India has a serious problem with "Eve-teasing", which is what sexual harassment is called there.

A recent horrendous incident was a gang rape, followed by murdering the 23 year old victim.

A group is giving away 21,000 three-inch knives + chili powder (to throw in attackers' eyes), with the eventual
total of these knives to = 100,000. Under Indian law, a 3" blade is not considered a weapon.

They may not have guns, but a knife might get the idea across eventually that "Eve-teasing" is not acceptable.

Hopefully the bad guys won't wrestle the knives away from the women and use the knives on the women.

It's a step in the right direction.

Unfortunately, simply carrying a weapon does not make a person capable of self defense. People who have firearms get injured and killed all the time -- sometimes with a holstered, unfired weapon.

People need an attitude of self-possession and resistance to attack.

If they have that, anything and everything is a weapon. They can gouge out eyes or render a man incapable of rape with their bare hands, knees, elbows, etc.

I see an increasing number of women carrying weights while jogging or running. I have to think getting socked in the head with a 5-lb. steel weight would spoil a mugger's day.
