Just spoke with one of my neighbors. He said that he noticed one of his dogs limping when he got home from work but just put it down to his dog's age. He is going to check to see if his dog was also shot.

Being a lab, his dog's fur isn't nearly as thick as my dog's fur is.

Depending on the size of your backyard, you shouldn't need too many of them and they will probably scare off anyone climbing the fence to shoot at your dogs.
I have a huge back yard. Also, considering that anyone who did this would have been walking behind the house on the sidewalk, if I put up motion detector lights there they would constantly be on due to vehicle traffic.
So? Who cares if you light up the sidewalk? I'm sure there's a crack in it somewhere that you're just trying to draw attention to so nobody will trip and fall. The city should thank you, really, since you're saving them medical expenses down the road.

And you only need to cover just the fence to catch them if they try it again. (The entire yard would be nice, though. Multiple cameras and camera angles make it harder to get away with.)

Oh, and I'm glad your dog is ok. I hope the neighbor's is, too.

Kythas wrote:Someone shot my dog today with a BB gun.

I have two Great Pyreneese dogs. They were in the back yard this afternoon barking at something, as Pyrs often do.

My male dog came inside through the dog door and laid down next to my chair. He was there for about 10 minutes then got up to get a drink of water from his bowl.

After he got up, I noticed two BBs on the floor at the exact spot where he had lain. I don't have a BB gun and haven't had any BBs since I was a child.

My dog is fine - he has a very thick coat and probably never even felt the BBs hit him.

However, it got me to thinking what I would have done had I glanced outside my window when this was happening and seen someone up over my fence (it's a 6 foot fence, too, which means whoever it was had to have climbed it) with a rifle, pointing the rifle at my dogs in my yard. I'm pretty sure I would have engaged them had I seen it.
Personally, I would have beat the living day lights out of the person I saw doing that. Actually, I would gladly take the contract to beat said piece of garbage out of his skin for you at no charge! :mad5 I bet I can even talk a few buds into helping me at no charge. They might even pay you for allowing them to beat the guy. That kind of stuff burns me up!! The coward can't come to your door like a man and tell you the dogs are bothering him?? :mad5

Hope it wasn't a neighbor and just some random teens acting like fools. I'll be ok in a minute.... LOL.... this stuff really gets my dander up!

I can pretty much guarantee it wasn't my neighbor as his dog appears to have been shot, too. His is worse than mine since the BB penetrated the skin. My other neighbor is a female retired Air Force drill sergeant who loves my dogs and brings her grandkids over to play with them.

It appears to be some random act. And I'd love nothing more than to catch whoever did it while they are doing it again.

I used to live out in the country where there was no leash law, everyone let their dogs run loose. The neighborhood dogs would come into my yard and try to get in my chicken pin. I had a .22 revolver loaded with blanks that I used to scare the dogs off. I told the neighbors about it and that I shoot blanks in the air to scare them off. If that did not work I had a airsoft gun that shot plastic BBs.

I had a buddy shoot me with it just to test it and see if it would hurt the dogs, just alittle sting. So I used that to run the dogs home, I used it a few times to run dogs off and I doubt they even felt it. This was a airsoft gun that had such low velocity that you could see the BB easily after shooting it. Paintball gun worked also.

Your title scared and saddened me. It sickens me to think of someone hurting a dog for what sounds like their own amusement. But with all the sickos out there it's amazing it doesn't happen more than it does. Glad they're alright. Where we're moving to, someone would have to be criminally trespassing to get at my dog.

Get that police report filed!!! Put a notice in a local newspaper in your immediate area...Get the word out...The perpetrator is bound to be caught sooner or later...I believe it is some punk kid with nothing better to do...It will catch up with them but you gotta get the heat turned up on them...Go look in the back area behind yours and the nieghbors fence, see if there are any deeper than usual bicycle tire ruts kinda meandering back there, get pictures of the treads...Any tracks left by the feet near them as well.., they had to stop and take an aimed shot at both houses...See if any windows are cracked/pitted/broken as well in your backyard...Check the nieghbors as well...Do the same thing...Spend some time tomorrow walking the nieghborhood and see if you spot any kids running around on bikes, stopping at drainage ditches possibly plinking turtles and stuff like I used to do as a kid...Just scope it out, don't engage yet...

Just some ideas I thought I would throw in there...Good luck!!!

I'm sure my neighbors hate me & my dogs, especially my puppy. She barks at anything & everything. I worked night shift for years, so when I'm home at night I often let them out in the yard.

Do you think that's fair to your neighbors?

In a situation like this, I would first ask that the dogs be kept inside at night. If that didn't work, I would declare war on the dog owner and it would be on. The dogs would be safe. ;-)

Nobody has ever said anything to me. If they did then I might do something about it. There are plenty of other dogs in the area that stay outside all the time. My dogs aren't nearly as loud. I think my closest neighbors probably take out their hearing aids at night.

And I'm moving soon to where my nearest neighbors will be a good way down the road.

Sorry if I sounded like I was issuing a challenge. I didn't mean to. When you posted that it made me think of my neighbor. He has a few very large and loud dogs. About once every couple weeks I have to go next door and ask him to put them in. Usually after ten at night. He runs along for a few weeks being polite and then right back to old habits he goes. I would never hurt his dogs but one of these times I'm going to get tired of being nice and crack him in the knees with a ball bat...LOL. :biggrinjester:

I live outside the city limits in a small unincorporated subdivision; barking dogs help me sleep at night.

It is when they are quite that I start to wonder.
