Switzerland: Workplace murder-suicide

Post by seamusTX »

In Menznau, Switzerland, Wednesday (about 9 a.m. local time), a man fatally shot three people, including himself, and injured seven at a wood-processing plant.

According to some news reports the man was an employee of the plant and shot the victims with a pistol. They do not say what his motivation might have been.

Shootings and violent crime of any sort are rare in Switzerland, which has the highest level of personal firearms ownership or possession in Europe. However, this is the second multiple-victim shooting this year.

None of this proves anything except that stuff happens, but that won't stop some people from trying.

The death toll increased to four, as one of the previously injured victims died.

The shooter reportedly was a 42-year-old immigrant to Switzerland, an ethnic Albanian from Kosovo.

The weapon used was a Sphinx AT 380 pistol, according to a police spokesman. It was not a military-issue weapon.

Immigration and gun control have both been contentious political issues in Switzerland.

The problem is crazies, not guns, and they can strike across the spectrum of gun laws.
