By the way the time on your server is wrong. The posts are showing up an hour behind.
I don't hate forum apps; I just don't want to risk a problem. I realize no website is secure, but doesn't mean I should throw caution to the wind.
When Tap-A-Talk was first requested, I researched it and found numerous reports of major problems. It had a major security vulnerability and a lot of phpBB and vBulletin sites were hacked because of Tap-A-Talk. I realize TAT claims the problem has been resolved, but why take the risk? Perhaps I don't understand fully what an app would do, but as others have shown in this thread, if the goal is to have a single button on the home screen to take you to the Forum, that can already be done. I was able to do it, with a little help, and what I don't know about iPhones would fill volumes!
I've also read complaints about TAT including advertising when it's used. As everyone knows, the Forum is completely non-commercial and I'm not about to let an unrelated company profit from our community.
Again, I'm not against apps, I just don't want 1) potential security vunerability; and 2) advertising added to the Forum.

Fair enough and I don't really want to stir the pot any more than I have. One of my posts got deleted and I apologize if it was improper. I was frustrated. I know you are a busy man and don't have time to look all over creation about apps for the forum but would you please consider in the future if someone had the application on their phone or Ipad looking at it and seeing if you thought it might add value to the forum? I personally think it would. I certainly understand about the advertising issues. Thank you for all you do.Charles L. Maybe some bright boffin should build a TAT replacement that doesn't require software installed on the server side. That way, forum administrators wouldn't have to install potential vulnerabilities on their computers, and users could choose whether to access any forum with a browser or the app.

I guess it's like the old mom and pop restaurant. The curse of expansion could do some damage. best to keep it simple.

Re: TexasCHLforum Smartphone App...?
Actually, over the years, I have found that it IS necessary to be able to walk away, unplug from this forum and actually go out and carry...
Get some sun, grab a cool beverage (non-alcoholic), and do a little people watching...
It does wonders for your BP, it is stress relieving, and you become someone that people want to be around...Mostly...Just don't ask my wife...Please!!!
The forum will always be here for you when you get back...
I don't really need to be able to smartphone this place, otherwise, I might start annoying people here...
Oooopssss, too late...

I think Chas got a little wordy with this response. He could have handled it with one word instead of 3.stevie_d_64 wrote:Charles L. Cotton wrote:No we don't!nyj wrote:We need Tap A Talk, Charles!

I might be able to make this idea come to life.
I would of course make it free and present it to the higher ups before making the app open to the public
Just let me know what you think.

With all this "gun control" talk,
I haven't heard one politician say how they plan to take gun from criminals,
just law abiding citizens.

Re: TexasCHLforum Smartphone App...?
Having this forum available where I access other forms would be convenient. But I wouldn't trade convenience for the many advantages that this forum & the way that it's run bring. Plus if we were to be lumped in with the rest, it could cause other problems. Here, trolls are almost nonexistent. Not so much with the tapatalk forums. I'm not sure if one thing has to do with the other, but I'd hate for this forum to be open up to that stuff. Let's not try to fix something that ain't broke.
