Flying is a whole nuther deal. I wouldn't take a gun into an IL airport for no amount of money. You have to tell them you have it and there's no telling how they will react.x007x wrote:I am flying to Chicago(MDW) airport and I have a friend's wedding that's in Mt Morris. I am not and have never been a LEO. My avatar is in honor of my friend, Dallas Police Sargent Michael Smith, who was murdered along with four other officers in Dallas on 7.7.2016.

Heck, I don't fly anywhere any more. Ever since the Totally Stupid Agency took over, I drive.

I'm not sure I'd bother with the hassle in a car. Flying in?

Because gun control legislation only takes guns out of law abiding citizens hands. We know this, now if liberals could learn this we would all be good.bdickens wrote:Why not? All the thugs do.

As has been previously stated, if you're travelling anywhere within the state, the firearm must be unloaded and either enclosed in a case or disassembled. Flying into Chicago with a firearm would not be a problem (except for the fact that possession of a handgun in Chicago is heavily restricted). Your major problem will be when you try to fly out of Chicago. Airline & TSA regulations require you to declare the existance of a firearm in your luggage. As soon as you do that at a Chicago airport, you're going for a ride. Your gun will most-likely be confiscated as well. If you feel like taking the risk, your best bet (although that's a relative term here) would be to fly in to Chicago & fly out of another airport out of state.x007x wrote:I am flying to Chicago(MDW) airport and I have a friend's wedding that's in Mt Morris. All that being said, if it were me I'd leave my gun at home - which is exactly what I did when I had to go to NYC on business last October.

Re: Can we conceal carry in Illinois?
Easy for you to say when you're not the one having to pay the piper. I get the whole "shall not be infringed" & the "I'll quit carrying when they make murder & robbery illegal" attitudes. But the OP was asking a serious question about going into one of the most gun-unfriendly states in the country. And to make matters worse, it's not only state laws that the OP needs to be concerned with. Each municipality is free to construct their own firearms regulation/prohibitions at will & without regard to what their neighboring communities have in place. IL is literally a legal minefield where firearms are concerned. Advising someone to disregard the laws on the basis that criminals do doesn't do anyone any good.bdickens wrote:Why not? Re: Can we conceal carry in Illinois?
I have flown into/out of MKE (Milwaukee) for trips to Chicago...I actually know some folks who do that quite often as opposed to dealing with O'Hare (for me, with AA, O'Hare is easy/breezy, event with rental car). It's pretty much a straight shot on I-94 (I think that's the highway), beware of all the tolls though. It's seriously the land of tolls...when you rent a car any where in the area MAKE SURE it has a toll tag, if it does not then do NOT leave the lot...otherwise it is big time hassle to have to go through the attended lanes...and many exits have unattended lanes where you must have EXACT change....been there enough to not deal with that hassle.
Edited to add - WI just got CC and reciprocity with Texas is going into effect soon from what I recall.

The city is not a concrete jungle. It is a human zoo.
Re: Can we conceal carry in Illinois?
The Liberals know this quite well. They completely understand what they are doing - and that bears no relationship at all to what they SAY they are doing.bauer wrote:Because gun control legislation only takes guns out of law abiding citizens hands. I used to travel to O'Hare on business regularly (and always took a whole pile of change for the tolls). I will never go back except under extreme duress. Part of that duress would be that I would never consider taking a gun. That is unless and until IL passes CC with reciprocity with TX. I'm certainly not holding my breath on that, regardless of what the courts say. All the same, June should be entertaining.

Just curious, about how long until you would get the gun back? I'm going to leave it, but not sure if I will drop the rest of the guns off at my parents.TexasCajun wrote:As has been previously stated, if you're travelling anywhere within the state, the firearm must be unloaded and either enclosed in a case or disassembled.
