Driving through anti-gun states
I may be moving to the northeast for a year or more for work. It's not a done deal but my plan is to drive so I can bring some things with me including all my guns. I may settle in Maine, New Hampshire or Vermont. The problem is that New England is surrounded by anti-gun states. I've been searching for laws regarding transportation of firearms through the anti-gun states however if what I've found is accurate, transportation is illegal even if I do not stop in the state. I drive 1500 miles without a problem but I'm stuck the last 200-300 miles. New England is bordered on the north by Canada so I can't cross the border and I can't go around. This is another violation of my 2nd amendment right because I cannot keep nor bear arms. I can't afford a few thousand $ in transfer fees and postage to send them to FFL. Does anyone know of any law or legal way to work around this roadblock that won't cost me lots of money?

Really? I didn't think NY was that bad if you didn't stop anywhere overnight. I don't think stopping for gas or a meal counts, but I could be wrong on that one. I thought the real problem was NJ and now CT.

I don't know the specifics on FedEx freight, but couldn't you pack them all up and ship them to a friendly FFL in the state you're going to move to? The others will correct me if I'm wrong, I'm just spit-balling.

I didn't realize it was going to be that difficult until I started looking into the laws of those states. I would have my FFL send them postal service, but it's a $10 transfer fee per gun plus the cost of shipping and then add another $50 per gun to retrieve on the other end (much higher transfer fees there). Just way too expensive to be reasonable.

FOPA is your answer. Just don't make any overnight or meal stops after PA until you get to VT or NH.

I was just listening to the md law that makes it illegal for you leave the state with your firearm, say to a range in a neighboring state..you cant legally bring the firearm back home

And possession of a >10 round magazine is a "misdemeanor" but the penalty is 5 years (mandatory minimum) to 20 years in prison for a first offense.powerboatr wrote: I was just listening to the md law that makes it illegal for you leave the state with your firearm, say to a range in a neighboring state..you cant legally bring the firearm back home
