Apparently so. Matthew and his family are experiencing the ultimate penalty from it.

Since we don't dig up dead bodies and execute them posthumously (like they did with Oliver Cromwell), it's not really relevant now.

The man is dead. His family is grieving. They may well cough up a lot of ill-considered comments that they would not make in a less emotional state.
