I predict it is just like the others, more marketing/hype/profit than action.

No, you are wrong.dean wrote:Hi, guys. I just happened to stumble on this thread and thought I'd chime in. My name is Dean and I'm with Second Call Defense. I'll try to address some of the comments/questions above:
The meeting at the Houston NRA show is for any firearm instructor. The NRA sent out the email for us and I think they sent it to their list of instructors in the Houston area, but obviously a lot of people didn't get it. However, we were expecting about 35 to sign up and we have about 100. So I recommend that you go to our website and click on the Join the Team link at the bottom of the site to get more info on being a recruiter (http://www.secondcalldefense.org/join-our-team) I'm the one who gets those emails and I'll forward them to Linda Walker who is in charge of recruiters. She's on the NRA Board of Directors, by the way.Not clear whether this is for NRA certified instructors, NRA members or the general public.
We're part of the NRA Business Alliance and the logo for that is at the bottom of the site on the right side. Not seeing any NRA endorsment mentioned on their website. However, one of their lawyers is on the NRA Board of Directors.
No it doesn't mean that. That's more like what USCCA has. Our insurance benefits are backed by the NRA endorsed insurance program and you get your own, individual policy. What the shared language means is that your policy has a certain amount of money available for you and that money is "shared" by the various reasons you might need it in any given situation. So if you have $250,000 available, you might need $50K for your lawyer or $100K to settle a civil suit, and all that falls under the maximum cash available. I know it's kind of confusing when you read the language in the disclaimer, but I didn't write it ... lawyers did. But in any case, you have your own policy and you don't share it with anyone. It means there is a master insurance policy issued to an organization or company with a limit of insurance that is the maximum that will be paid out under the policy. The organization then adds others to the policy as additional named insureds by establishing a contractual relationship, some times called a members. Then all the additional named insureds share the limit of insurance regardless of the number of additional insureds.
It's totally legit. We started Second Call Defense because we couldn't find anything out there that was comprehensive, so we created it. Took a couple years because it's a lot harder than we thought to get everything right. We're working hand in hand with Lockton (I have a phone meeting with them every Tuesday). And the insurance is underwritten by Lloyd's of London. You'll see our ads starting in June in America's 1st Freedom and we'll be at Booth 3405 in Houston if you want to drop by and talk to us. And on Saturday and Sunday (May 4 and 5), our friend Dick Heller will be at the booth signing autographs and taking photos (yes, THAT Dick Heller).I predict it is just like the others, more marketing/hype/profit than action.
Hope that helps. If you have any questions about membership, feel free to contact me on the website. http://www.secondcalldefense.org/
My explanation of a shared limit type program is correct. I also said I did not know if your program is a shared limit program or not. I said if it is, buyer beware. If you want to explain that it is not a shared limit program, that's fine, please do so since there seems to be limited information about your product available.
Please don't show up on the forum and incorrectly dispute what has been said. It doesn't do much for your or your products credibility.

I am interested in knowing if you plan to have CHL instructors market your product since your email was targeted to them. Also, is it an insurance product?

Yup, just what I expected.AEA wrote:I predict it is just like the others, more marketing/hype/profit than action.

Any Instructor that uses class time to market this stuff should have his License pulled.dean wrote:As for CHL instructors, yes we have about 60 instructors signed up now as recruiters. You can get more info on our website with the link Join our Team at the bottom. We're offering a membership and yes, it includes insurance benefits. But it's more than that. We offer money and assistance upfront the moment you pull the trigger. Again, see our website for a list of the benefits. BTW, we are NOT prepaid legal.

Someone post the email here so we all know what it is about as presented to NRA Instructors.Keith B wrote:I didn't get it either, would you please forward a copy to me?sjfcontrol wrote:Forwarded a copy of the email notice to you.TexasGal wrote:Crossfire, I did not get that email. When/where is the seminar?Crossfire wrote:The email went out to all NRA instructors.
I signed up for the seminar. I have not been impressed with any of the other pre-paid insurance plans, but this one has NRA and Lockton associated with it, so I am willing to spend an hour of my time to hear about it.
Thanks!

Re: Self Defense Insurance endorsed by NRA
There are laws enforced by the Texas Department of Insurance regarding the licensing of insurance agents and selling insurance. If I were an instructor interested in working as a "recruiter" for this organization, I would get an opinion from TDI before I signed up with them. The penalties for the unlicensed selling of insurance can be substantial. TDI can also advise you what you can and cannot to to avoid crossing the line.

Re: Self Defense Insurance endorsed by NRA
I didn't make it by. There was just too much going on. I did briefly see the booth and inquired about the class. I told the guy CHL Instructors are not allowed to use class time to promote these kinds of things because it makes it look like the State has endorsed it. He seemed to know that and said something about it would be ok to promote it during other training such as first steps, etc.

This is brand new (about 4 months old) and they are still working out the kinks. I reserve judgment for now..
