Boots, hats and other Texan things...

Post by TheCytochromeC »

Hello all,

I was wondering if there are any recommendations for boots, buckles and other western ware. I prefer these items to be made in the US, in particularly in Texas. I've seen links for some businesses such as Leddy's and Ponder in the Stockyards which seem to be along the lines of what I'm looking for. But, are there any others? What experiences have you had with customer service and quality?

I own a pair of Black Jack Gator Boots, made in El Paso, Texas. I wear them everyday. They are in fact the most comfortable square toe Roper style boot I've ever owned. They do Belts, too.

I have no experience with Leddy's but would love to hear from someone who has. I need a good reason to go over there soon and hit Fred's Cafe for a Diablo Burger.

You will not beat the comfort and quality of Lucchese boots without going with custom made specifically for you.

They are spendy, but worth it.

Oh, and they're made in El Paso.

I love watching/hearing people not familiar with the brand read aloud the word "Lucchese". It is amuzing.

I will sometimes call mine, "My cheezy boots."

The other person, with a confused look: "Huh?"

Me: "That's what it said on the box... L-U-Cheesy."

Most, here in Texas, get it.

If one is going to dress circa 1840-1860 or so, consider the pirate look.

A bandanna over yer noggin, a single black eye patch perhaps, (two would be a bit much for navigation) a parrot on one shoulder (doesn't have to be real), no particular footwear, shirt or trousers required.

On special occasions, maybe strap on a wooden peg leg, hop along and continuously exclaim "Avast there matey's" or "Where's me grog"?

Easy.

The costume makes the man or woman.

You have to have a proper hat. A good quality Stetson or similar is customary. In the hill country of my youth, a man would no sooner go without his Stetson than his pick up truck. Dignified, too, not like one of these drug store cowboys or something!
Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

Man you are such a tease, but I can get a good model to copy my Texan-look. All what you need is A BBQ pistoleta and OC bill to pass very soon.
