Re: school quandry
uh oh.
1. see if you can find out if ANY of the other kids in the classes had the same conversation?
2a. if so, don't worry too much, just be aware.
2b. if not, CALL A LAWYER! try THSC, explain it's a parent's rights situation, if they won't help, they might be able to put you in touch with someone who can. otherwise try ACLJ. And consider removing the kids from the school.
3. make sure the girl knows not to talk to anyone without a parent present. unfortunately it sounds like your son can't follow that, but might not be able to tell them anything anyway?
4. remember that CPS and the cops MUST have a warrant to enter your house. I think the THSC website has a page that talks about dealing with the police at your door, it might not be a bad idea to read over that.
hopefully this is all just smoke and there is nothing to be concerned about, but I've been following a case in CA, so my CPS radar is up.

Re: school quandry
I 100% expect this kind of stuff in Austin...and Dallas, and Houston and San Antonio, and several other places around this state. But Abilene? I guess there are those with a socialist agenda everywhere these days. Sickening.SRO1911 wrote:I am sure most of you are familiar with the various facebook pages that have become online gunshows - individuals and dealers post their wares - much trading and scalping of ammunition, etc..
I and several friends are on a few of them and an interesting thing happened today. My son is in 3rd grade, a friends daughter is in 2nd grade. Both were asked about guns on the computer today by teachers. His daughter was told not to tell dad.
My son is mh/mr - he could not really tell them much, other than he likes to shoot.
Our children do not associate with one another - totally different schedules, no traceable relationships - the only thing that could conceivably connect them would be us being on the same page.
I think the proverbial fecal matter is about to strike the air mover...
Re: school quandry
Can you explain this a little better? I guess I'm a little slow tonight because I'm not sure I understand. Do you mean that a teacher showed them a picture of a gun on their computer and asked them questions about what might be in their homes?SRO1911 wrote:Both were asked about guns on the computer today by teachers.
I am not and have never been a LEO. My avatar is in honor of my friend, Dallas Police Sargent Michael Smith, who was murdered along with four other officers in Dallas on 7.7.2016.

Re: school quandry
Are you saying the kids were interrogated about access to firearms in your home and shown pics of your FB page? Then were told not to say anything to their parents about the interrogation?
If so, time to open up a can, brother.

A BIG CAN. IMHO they just broke the law by interrogating your child without you or a lawyer present, then wanted to cover it up by telling them not to say anything to the parents.

it's debatable....the school will claim...ohhh what's the term...parentis locum???....something like that....they will also claim they were trying to determine if the kids were in danger.
DO NOT misunderstand me...the school was WRONG!!!! I'm saying what the school will say....y'al know how I feel about government schools...
I'm interested to see what happens here...I wouldn't have expected this in Abilene.

Unfortunately, the teachers in Abilene are trained at the same Liberal drinking fountain as the teachers in all of the other cities in this State. I doubt that you can find one higher education institution anywhere that specializes in teacher training that doesn't have a huge Liberal slant.SewTexas wrote:RPBrown wrote:jmra wrote:Are you saying the kids were interrogated about access to firearms in your home and shown pics of your FB page? you're probably right, and it is a college town....I think I was trying to remember it as the conservative Christian college town it was when I was in college there....you know, back in the dark ages

Re: school quandry
Thats what I thought. Maybe, a patient, calm meeting with the teacher to further understand the situation would help? A child could misinterpret something because their understanding of situations is colored by their life experiences, which are different than an adults. It could be innocuous, it could be sinister and you won't find the truth until you get both sides of the situation.RPBrown wrote:jmra wrote:Are you saying the kids were interrogated about access to firearms in your home and shown pics of your FB page? If my child came home saying the same thing, I'd just assume it's because they don't want Daddy to give a long winded lecture about guns

Re: school quandry
problem with this interpretation Mamak is that the conversations happened with 2 different children from 2 different families.

If my child came home saying the same thing, I'd just assume it's because they don't want Daddy to give a long winded lecture about gunsMy daughters explanation of where I work is somewhat hilarious example of how a child (mis) interprets things - she says that I work in a place that shoots people when they are sick. Which is kind of true, if you come into the clinic you can get shots, but her word usage certainly changes the meaning, even if what she understands is true. So, what I'm trying to say is take a few deep breaths, it probably isn't what it seems. However, you might want to ask yourself, why the idea of people knowing about your activities on facebook worry you because that is coloring your perspective.

I'm interested in what was asked of the kids; at least the best that they can recall.
TBM and I encourage our kids to shut up and not say anything and them to say call my mommy if you want to talk to me.
