Just closed in my first house...
Well it's done, just came back from the title company and I am officially a first time home owner. Kid of exciting, scary and everything else at the same time.
Moving to Irving and hopefully some of you can answer some questions:
1. Well the most important first, what is a good range in Irving.
2. Any local gun shops, like mom and pop places.
3. I plan on replacing the floors, is there like a city dump to take the old removed caper to?
4. I currently have TXU anyone recommend a better electric company?
Anything else I need to know please chime in, I have a lot to learn about home ownership m

1)Treat firearms as if they are loaded. 2)Point the muzzle away from non-targets.
3)Keep fingers off the trigger until ready to shoot. 4)Be sure of your target and backstop.

Congratulations on your home purchase. Where about in Irving did you move? I live in North Fort Worth.
1. Depends on the part of town you moved to
2. Depends on where in Irving you are located
3. Yes, they have a landfill you can use. Check out http://www.ci.irving.tx.us/Solid-Waste- ... ndfill.asp" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; for details
4. Fire TXU or at least price compare. I think we are with Reliant and save a ton over TXU. There is also Zero and a couple others.
I like to tell people that if money is tight, you should put away some money every month to a home repair fund that can cover items such as hot water heaters, emergency AC repairs and the likes. I would recommend that you keep what your insurance deductible in the savings account.
I like replacement cost insurance versus replacement value. Call your insurance and ask them what the value is of that neat 3D flat screen you just bought last month or the cool pots and pans or that tie die t-shirt. The value is depreciated all the way down to almost nothing. I had a buddy that was robbed. He got $1800 from insurance after his deductible ($500 at that time) and it cost nearly $10,000 to replace the TV, gaming and computer stuff with comparable equipment.

Good advice, but I save a bundle not heating up hot water. I have a "cold" water heater. Of course, I went into Sears once and asked for a "Garage Door Closer" They stared at me with a confused look for a bit:RX8er wrote:

We have Bounce, very user friendly! I think we pay 8.9 cents per kWh. I we got a free month of electricity this month!

Why do we drive on a parkway and park on a driveway? Military Intelligence? Shouldn't apartments be called allstucktogethers?

Okay, I drive by your area darn near every day. So, the best advice I can give: Stay off of 183 between 0630-0900 and 1500-1900.daniel2002p wrote:Should have added I am on 183/MacArthur.

I don't know about LGS in Irving. The one in the general area is Euless Guns & Ammo. There is Bachman Pawn and Gun for some stuff too but they are not known for their service. For ranges, there is Elm Fork, DFW Gun Range (temp closed), Eagle Gun, The Dallas Gun Club (if you know someone who's a member) I am sure there are others south of you but I am not familiar with them.

I just checked with Bounce, and for my address it's 11.7 cents per kwh. That's more than I pay with TXU. Guess it varies location to location.SF18C wrote:We have Bounce, very user friendly! I think we pay 8.9 cents per kWh. I we got a free month of electricity this month!

I dunno.....my water heater heats hot water every time it cycles to on after it makes hot water.

Don't forget a lawn mower and trimmer or edger of some kind. Don't let the city or HOA, if you're unlucky, to get after you for not taking care of your yard.
+1 on Elm Fork. Their only down side is that they require a 3x or greater scope to use the 100 yard area and that's not really that big a deal. However, if you're into shotguns, I just went over to their shotgun side a few weeks ago and it is AMAZING!
Be wary of 183 during rush hours. Has there ever been a weekday where there wasn't at least 2-3 accidents during both sets? Hey, during rush hours on this parkway one does do more parking than driving.

Re: Just closed in my first house...
Just looking online it seems that bounce energy is the winner beating our TXU (by a long shot, holy crap I have been overpaying) and Cirro as well.
So I have to call City of Irving for Water, Gas and trash pickup days and then Bounce for electricity and I just checked this house can get Verizon FIOS!!! YES!
Goodbye ATT UVerse!

A buddy of mine that I went to the academy is leaving us for Irving PD. It looks like a cool area so congrats on the house!
