What a great story. Thanks for sharing it.

I HIGHLY recommend that you click on the Patriots Profiles and watch some of the other stories. Kudos to the NRA for doing this and Smith and Wesson for sponsoring it. We need more recognition for these brave men who sacrificed so much for our country while others sat and watched. This one in particular will amaze you. There are thousands of stories just like it - men who demonstrated extreme courage and bravery in dire situations and received no recognition for it all - until now.

For a while, some 40 years ago in a land far, far away... I worked with some dog handlers and got to know a few of the pairs, but those dogs would never be able to be "adopted" by the handlers upon discharge or retirement - they were simply trained to be a hazard to everyone else but their handler.

Now, the dogs are much more socialized to be able to work in such close quarters with regular troops... and it's amazing to me how many different roles the dog has been trained to handle... rescue, EOD, ambush detection, guard duty, etc.
