Re: Lock box for car
I use a 14 dollar master lock cable lock and just thread it through the barrel and slide and lock it to the seat support. like the box it will stop a smash and grab and if you have an alarm it helps because if they see the red blinking light is a deterrent to move on to an easier target
Some parents say it is toy guns that make boys warlike. But give a boy a rubber duck and he will seize its neck like the butt of a pistol and shout "Bang!"......George Will

This is what I have:equin wrote:I have something similar and do the same.Jaguar wrote:TexasCajun wrote:A good lock box with a stiff steel cable will prevent all but the most determined theives. I'm prohibited from carrying at work, and it's not practical for me to have the safe bolted to the frame. So I've looped the cable around one of the seat posts & I slide the box as far as it will go underneath the seat. The box is for storage only. The other 98% of the time, my carry is on me. Until my employer wakes up or I hear of a better system, I'll keep it.![]()
I got a Bulldog Car Vault from Cabela's, nothing fancy, just a lock box to hide my gun in while I am at work. I wrap the cable around the seat bracket to stop the amateur smash and grab.

I got the large. I could see a pro easily defeating it, but it should hopefully deter an amateur smash-n-grab.

If you're in the car, the firearm isn't in the safe. I thought that was obvious. The purpose of the safe is to secure the weapon when you're not allowed to carry it.SigOperator02 wrote:To be quite honest, I think that is kind of counterproductive in having your weapon in a locked safe in your car. When you find yourself in imminent danger kind of situation, where your life is on the line; do you really won’t to have to take more of those valuable seconds to have to deal with a lock? If someone wants to steal your firearm, they will find a way. You build a better mouse trap and the mice get smarter.

They're $19.99.SigOperator02 wrote:I never assume anything. I said that I find it “counterproductive” and that I personally don’t see a benefit for me. I don’t like having my firearm where I can’t readily have access to it, no matter the time frame. While you’re wasting time trying to open your safe, I have already retrieved my weapon. I also don’t allow people to drive my vehicle because you never really know who is driving your car. I have installed a nice step up that works for me that’s “concealed.” The extra mags that are close by that are hidden in plain sight. I have had this set up for the last six years without incident. I’m not saying their bad but I just don’t think their worth the money. It’s about your comfort level, I find less is more.
How do you not allow people to drive your vehicle? You never go anywhere that has valet service? Or you refuse the valet service and walk from whereever you parked?

One of the assignments that locksmiths have made their bread and spread on is opening bolted auto or truck entryways. A few mortgage holders unintentionally leave their keys inside the auto or lose the keys throughout the day.

That's exactly how things work for us as well. And I can look out my office window and see our car less than 10 feet (and about 20 steps) from my desk.TexasCajun wrote:A good lock box with a stiff steel cable will prevent all but the most determined theives. Here's my in car lockup. Easily accessible from the drivers seat and it hides away nicely.
