I don't always side with cops, but I am perplexed at the anti-LEO sentiments expressed. And even more perplexed by the high probability that these anti-LEO people are also anti-gun ownership.

But then, maybe I shouldn't be perplexed at the libtard way of thinking.

Imagine that a criminal with a handgun not obeying New York or Federal gun laws.......shocked I am...

In what police are describing as a crime of opportunity, a wanted man with a criminal history dating nearly 15 years entered a front door that had been left open at a New York home near Hofstra University.

A short time later, the intruder, Dalton Smith, and a 21-year-old college junior, Andrea Rebello, were both dead. The two were killed early Friday by a Nassau County police officer who fired eight shots at the masked man, hitting him seven times but also accidentally hitting Rebello once in the head, Nassau County homicide squad Lt. John Azzata said Saturday.
Smith was holding Rebello in a headlock and pointing a gun at her head before he turned his gun at the officer, Azzata said, prompting the shooting.

"He kept saying, 'I'm going to kill her,' and then he pointed the gun at the police officer," Azzata said.

A loaded 9 mm handgun with a serial number scratched off was found at the scene, police said.

Nassau county might well be part of NYC. NYC LE has not been held in high esteem because of wide spread corruption and at least one recent high visibility shooting where 9 innocent bystanders were wounded by stray police bullets. I doubt that the NYC PD is as corrupt as it was when we lived in neighboring NJ but I also doubt that many of people have forgotten that corruption. When you couple that with Bloomburg's heavy handed rule, often carried out through practices like "stop and frisk", it is no wonder that there is little respect for the police there.

And you are probably right about the police detractors also being the anti-gun types. Gun ownership and use carry an almost worse stigma that the police in that area. I was truly amazed at the number of seemingly intelligent people who have so thoroughly bought into the anti-gun agenda. It was not an accident that the NY Legislature got away with passing the Draconian gun control bill. There is a lot of public support for such things in the urban areas, much like the rest of the country.

I wonder how long the officer waited before shooting? If he'd taken a head shot immediately, he might have saved her life.

I can understand shooting several times when the gun is pointing at you.
