Waco man gets 50-year sentence for stealing ribs

Post by Keith B »

Man, don't mess with a Texan's BBQ! :fire
Forty-three-year-old Willie Smith Ward was convicted and sentenced on robbery charges Wednesday. The Waco Tribune-Herald reports that Ward's theft of the $35 rack of pork ribs turned into a robbery after he threatened a grocery store employee who tried to stop him in 2011.

He would not have been doing this here in CA as the third strike would have put him away for a loooooong time, unless of course he was released due to overcrowding.

Shoplifting meat is an organized wholesale crime. "Managers" get bums (drug addicts, mostly) to shoplift meat, which middle-men then sell to restaurants. Usually the thieves stuff the meat in their pants. They have been caught with 20 pounds of meat stashed here and there.

Think about that when you're munching on your kung pao chicken. Yum. :ack:

P.S.: Somewhere buried in the penal code, it's a felony to steal livestock or any part thereof. That pretty much makes it a felony to steal a wool sweater on a third offense.

Here you go. It's a rather convoluted part of the penal code:

Stealin' a Texan's meat? Aught to be a Capital Crime...This perp won't even get any love in the Pen, I am thinking. He will probably have to be put in PC for his own protection.

Apparently Ward didn't get the message:

"The jury recommended Ward be sentenced as a habitual criminal. Ward has previous felony convictions for burglary, attempted robbery, aggravated assault, leaving the scene of an accident and possession of cocaine, and four misdemeanor convictions, including two thefts."
