Shoplifting meat is an organized wholesale crime. "Managers" get bums (drug addicts, mostly) to shoplift meat, which middle-men then sell to restaurants. Usually the thieves stuff the meat in their pants. They have been caught with 20 pounds of meat stashed here and there.
Think about that when you're munching on your kung pao chicken. Yum.

P.S.: Somewhere buried in the penal code, it's a felony to steal livestock or
any part thereof. That pretty much makes it a felony to steal a wool sweater on a third offense.
