Niagara

Post by RJGold »

Been up in Niagara Falls area for a few days. It is certainly one of the most beautiful things I have seen on this earth.

I'm ready to get home though. It doesn't seem like me and my NY and Canadian brethren are "like minded".

Small world...I was just in Hamilton, Ontario working for about 3 weeks. I got home last Wednesday and was very happy to do so.

First time to 'The Falls' and it was an awesome sight to behold.

Drove through Hamilton yesterday on our way too and from Toronto...

Beautiful area but it was really raining and foggy yesterday so the views were limited...

Headed over to Niagara on the Lake today and then back to Texas tomorrow...

Canadians, sheesh. I deal with a bunch of them and they most certainly are not "like minded."

Albertans aren't bad...

Most of them think like Texans...

It's the eastern Canadians that bother me...

A couple of years ago, we spent a week on the Canadian side of Niagara Falls and then drove across Ontario, exiting back into the US at Port Heron, MI. There wasn't any part of that experience that was a problem including both border crossings. We met a very like-minded cashier at one of the local grocery stores. Except for her accent, she could have easily passed for a Texan, eh?

I spent a very long February in Calgary and found the people there to be fairly like-minded. Calgary is a lot like Ft. Worth - based on oil and cattle. I had some interesting discussions about hockey (Flames vs. the Dallas Stars) but it was all in good fun. I was meeting in Calgary with a group from BC and had no issues with them either. Generally, all of them were much more open minded than US people from CA or NY/NJ

Then there is Toronto. For my money, it is an extension of NY and almost every person that I spoke to there displayed a huge lack of common sense. I'm used to dealing with Liberals but the Toronto version was beyond my capabilities. On the RV forums, I've participated in some heated discussions with RV owners from the Toronto area. They are cut from the same control oriented cloth that most HOA boards are made of. I just love people who know what is better for me than I do.

Toronto is to Canada what Austin is to Texas

I grew up outside of Hamilton...moved here for work at 40. Two different cultures, two different counties....don't expect everything to be the same

Toronto is okay, my wife did post-grad work there. Ottawa now or, god forbid, Montreal might as well be on different planets. Beautiful, historic, even exotic in a strange way, but as different from the rest of the country as major cities on our coasts are to fly over country.
