I had forgotten about this case, but it was in the news today. She is lucky that is all she got in Williamson County.

A Williamson County jury on Tuesday sentenced Carolyn Barnes to three years in prison for shooting at a census worker.
Barnes, a 56-year-old Williamson County attorney, was convicted Monday of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The jury deliberated almost five hours Tuesday before making its decision. Barnes could have received up to 20 years in prison.

She was previously ruled incompetent to stand trial...and continued to practice law from a psychiatric facility. The state bar suspended her license for awhile...but only because she fell behind in her continuing education requirements after being confined for shooting at the census worker...once she caught up her credits, she got her license back in good standing, even tho still in psychiatric confinement.

To her credit, she argued that if she were competent to practice law, she should be competent to stand trial. Guess she finally got her wish.

Both she and the attorney disciplinary process are real pieces of work.

I am also surprised that she only got three years in Williamson County. Perhaps the jury members don't like census people knocking on their doors either....

Not that her actions are justified....just saying I wonder if they went lighter on her because of it.

I would think that a felony conviction would get her bar card revoked. :confused5

How many whiskey and sodas does she need to drink to pass the bar exam? :-)
