Texas gun owners may be asking themselves

Rick Perry famously said, "every Texan with a concealed handgun license should be able to carry their handguns everywhere in this State."

However, when he had the opportunity to use his office as a bully pulpit during the regular session, he was quiet as a church mouse. When he called the first special session, he had the opportunity to add gun rights and chose not to do that. Now he called a second special session and once again there's nothing on the plate to allow us to carry our handguns everywhere in Texas, like he claims to support.

Knowing all this, Texas gun owners may be asking themselves

Obviously it was not at the top of his priority list.

During the next election cycle, look into the background of the candidates and see what their record is on firearms, especially before voting during the primaries. But, I assure you, voting Democrat is NOT going to expand/restore your firearms rights.

I'm pretty much for making sure that Perry doesn't publicly speak about any topic or subject that I actually support.

He had a pretty good shot at the presidency until he started speaking publicly. He just should have kept smiling and showing everyone that great head of hair. His odds were better that way.

I understand the frustration that campus carry didn't make it to a final vote this session...or didn't make it to special sessions one or two.

But guess what? We've been at this for over 18 years. Prior to that, it was absolutely illegal to carry a concealed firearm in Texas.

Rick Perry was elected Lieutenant Governor of Texas in 1998. He became governor in 2000.

Whine as much as you like, but Texas has never had a more pro-gun governor than Rick Perry.

That's the crux of the problem. Texas deserves a governor who is as pro-gun in the odd number years as Perry is during the even number years.

Too bad there are so many issues other than guns that require my attention when voting for a candidate. Whenever I hear Mr. Perry speak, guns are about the only thing I can agree with. He seems a bit too concerned with the "War on Christmas," which seems a bit abused to me.

To be serious for a second, I think the majority can agree that if there was a better candidate and advocate for the 2A, most of us would take a serious look into him/her. The fact of the matter is, that even though we have been given lip-service when it comes to campus carry, and the right to carry in various places, Perry is still a better option as to some people out there.

Humor back on/ I would almost compare him to a good quarterback - not a great one. Take Tony Romo for example. While Cowboys fans are frustrated with many of his decisions, there are many, many teams and fans who would kill for someone that gives his team a chance. I think we saw the same thing with GW Bush at the end of his 2nd term. Many people were ready to move on, but who is happy with who we have now? When the grass is greener on the other side, sometimes it is still a good idea to take inventory of what you do have and be thankful.

That being said, if Greg Abbott, or some other candidate wants to step up to the plate, I'm interested in what they have to say.

You have missed an all-important distinction: at least with Republicans, you don't go BACKWARDS. And for the record, in my personal opinion, I do not consider Strauss to be much of a Republican.

The original CHL law was passed by Democratic legislators. Compared to what we got from the Republicans recently, I am now willing to give them another shot, especially after the FUD tactics of some here.
