Blood pressure

Post by suthdj »

I figure there are enough old farts and medical people here so maybe this would be a good place to ask.
My blood pressure the last 2 days has hit highs of 154/101 and around it, during these times I have a pounding headache at the top of neck, little heaviness in the chest and in general feel like poop warmed over. So questions I have is at what point should I be concerned enough to seek immediate medical help and how can I bring it down in the meantime. I have no idea what is triggering this unless coffee is my new enemy, today about 1/2 way into a movie I started feeling this way and all I had was maybe 2 cups of coffee and cereal. Oh and no lectures about taking care of myself better, I already have a wife for that. "rlol"

I believe you should see a doctor now. The heaviness in the chest along with that high blood pressure is a disaster waiting to happen. I speak from experience.

Most of the time when men ask these kinds of questions they should have already had it checked out. Get it checked out.

Are you currently on meds for HBP? Whether or not you are, with heaviness in the chest, a trip to the ER is probably warranted.

That is dangerously high blood pressure. You need to see a doctor right away. Two cups of coffee won't do that by itself.

We live in the same area. If you don't have a doc, let me know, and I will give you a recommendation.

Ok a little history, I don't like meds. That being said I was put on HBP meds a couple years ago which helped a little Dr gave me lowest dose because I don't like drugs, not because I think meds are bad but because I suck at taking them. So about the same time the wife went to China to visit her family while she was gone I managed to lose 30 pounds and run out of meds well I noticed my BP was normal so cool no more meds needed well she came back and being the great cook that she is I eat and gained about 20+ pounds back and here we are. I hesitate going to ER well because I am cheap and have a $6000 deductible ya ya I know foolish I am a guy what can I say. I may take off work tomorrow to see Dr but not sure yet.

Anyway a little off topic before I lost the weight I bought a gun belt from 5.11 for like $5 however it was a few inches too small so after losing the weight it fit and I was able to use it. Then after gaining weight back I started to notice my hip hurting on my gun side and of course I ignored it :banghead: well recently I had to buy a new belt as I out grew the 5.11 belt and my hip stopped hurting, amazing. :banghead:

Just so you understand what a hard head I am I suffered with strep throat for a week before I saw a Dr and had relief from the pain in 24 hrs, I had a pinched nerve and numb fingers for 9 months before I went into the VA for treatment, mostly because I did not like the options.

I don't want to be a nag but, unless you want to make your wife a widow, you need to change that "probably" to definitely!

You have the symptoms of someone suffering from early stages of renal failure and might be knocking on the door of a stroke. I AM NOT SAYING THAT'S WHAT YOU HAVE OR SPEAKING THAT OVER YOU. I just want you to know how serious this is. Don't let male stubbornness lead to a tragedy.

I too had a distaste for taking medications and a problem remembering them. Now, with diabetes, HBP, a heart condition, and diabetic neuropathy I have to take a lot of pills. I bought a 7 day pill case. On Sunday morning I refill it for the week. At a glance I can see if I took my meds. HBP is nothing to trifle with and what you are describing sounds like trouble. Don't wait until it's too late get it checked a $6,000 deductible is cheaper than a $12,000 funeral.

Twenty percent of the population has high blood pressure. The signs of heaviness in the chest are classic for pre-infarction or even infarction. I know as I have two stents. The combination of the above is not good. It is very hard to realize that you need to go to the ER or you might die (it was hard for me to tell my wife let's go to the ER). You would not be the first person to die at home with a myocardial infarction and you won't be the last. So, it comes down to the money. The poor trash on Medicaid would have already been in the ER to have it checked. The person who pays the bills for the poor trash sits home and ????. Better to have it checked than to leave your wife with funeral arrangements. Your local doc is not good enough. Go to the ER.
