Automatic Knife Carry- Why Not?

Post by DH44 »

Can someone explain to me why we can get licensed to carry a firearm- with stringent requirements and thorough vetting- but we can't carry an automatic knife?
Doesn't make much sense IMO.

What do you mean by "automatic knife?" There are some kinds of knives which we cannot get a license for, and which we cannot carry either. We CAN carry some assisted opening knives if the blades are under the maximum allowable length.

If these were guns, it would be like being told that we cannot under any circumstances carry semiautomatic pistols in caliber over 9mm or 7 rounds capacity. Do you think that is better than our current gun rights?

As of Sept. 1, it will be legal under state law to carry an automatic knife. This doesn't make it legal under local laws such as in San Antonio.

I do hate when that happens. Glad I could pass along some information!

The real question is do I want to plunk down the coin for one or stick with an assisted opener which are darn near automatic?

Also, I don't know San Antonio law enough to know if they ban switchblades. I had thought they did but I can't find anything saying that they do. At any rate, local preemption is still allowed so tread carefully.

Am I reading that right, that I can't carry any knife under 5.5" if it can be locked into place?

I had the same thought. That would illegalize ALL of my pocket knives.
