Westboro Baptist Church - Turn About's Fair Play

Post by Keith B »

Satanists ‘turn’ Westboro Baptist Church founder’s mom gay in graveyard ceremony. :smilelol5:
The Satanist temple is fed up with the Westboro Baptist Church’s outrageous behavior — so they’ve “turned” the founder’s mom gay for all eternity.

On Sunday, the Satanic Temple performed a ritual called a “pink mass” at the grave of Catherine Idalette Johnston in Mississippi. She is the mother of WBC founder, Fred Phelps Jr.

”Fred Phelps is obligated to believe that his mother is now gay … [and] if beliefs are inviolable rights, nobody has the right to challenge our right to believe that Fred Phelps believes that his mother is now gay.

I'm not sure which is weirder. The Westboro Baptist bunch or the satanists, doing the pink mass and "turning" Phelps' mother "gay" long after her death....

Too weird.... :headscratch

As background to my point, below, roughly 20 years ago I had two young, fresh-faced, young men in a white shirt and tie ring my doorbell. I invited the Mormon missionaries into my home and proceeded to have a dialog with them over 3-4 visits. I wasn't particularly interested in converting to Mormonism, but I was interested in expanding my knowledge of their faith. I also viewed it as an opportunity to proselytize them to my faith. ;-) Respectful interfaith dialog.

I may have understood the theology incorrectly, but I remember asking them why was it so important for me to have the genealogy of my ancestors. They explained that "when I converted", then there was a ceremony where all of my ancestors would also be retroactively baptized as a Mormon. The longer my ancestral chain of Mormon's, the higher rank I would have in heaven.

Well, I know my father faced persecution for his faith and was quite staunch and firm in it. The idea of me having the audacity to change him into a Mormon was horrifying.

So the Satanists aren't the only group playing that card.

There's a ranking hierarchy in heaven?

Do we have a listing of rank?

Such as, upon entering paradise as an ordinary soul, would you be listed as something like a Private or if you're a bit more accomplished as a 2nd Lieutenant? Then as you exist beyond the pearly gates you have to work to achieve greater rank?

There's a career path in heaven?

I had no idea (I'm not well schooled in things theological) that bureaucracy existed in Paradise.

People who don't know any better try to assign worldly characteristics to the unfathomable, because they are not comfortable with the unknown. People who love bureaucracies are likely to assign bureaucracies to the vision of heaven........but that is not what is truly meant by "building up your treasures in heaven." Having a Christian worldview myself, I can only "know" what is specifically described in the Bible, and there really isn't that much there about it in the way of specifics.....even from the mouth of the Universe's Architect....except that it is better than what we have here, right now. I just started reading Pat Buchanan's Suicide of a Superpower yesterday. It just further reinforces my view that I am merely enduring this life, waiting for the next. What he says in his book expresses perfectly the sentiments that I have posted here many times in the past couple of years—that we are in decline, and I do not see it changing without a cataclysmic social upheaval. "Enduring" does not mean that I have no joy or love in my life, but it does mean that the good in my life pales in comparison to what is to come in the next, and the negatives in this earthly world are pressing hard against the good that I have now. I don't have a death wish, but I have lived my life for the past 19 years since my salvation as if every day I wake up is a good day, but the day that I don't will be a better one. Not accidentally, I think, I have settled at a church called "1:21 Community Church." Some think it is named that because it is located near the TX-121 freeway, but it is really called that because our "life verse" is Philippians 1:21 - "To live is Christ, to die is gain."

I wait expectantly.
