Re: Which of you....
I'm in Houston so anyone who wants to meet I am ready. Also I hate to say this but I gave up drinking 15 years ago so only iced tea for me. Don't smoke either

Oh, I'm plenty familiar with the area. I figure I have almost as much time in the Alamo as David Crockett, a little more than 600 hours, although my hours there were spread out over more than 60 years. I was just there a few weeks ago with some CA friends who helped us move.AEA wrote:You would be literately STEPS away from the Riverwalk that has more places to eat/drink than you can imagine.JALLEN wrote:Does Menger offer edible food service?
Looking online, the Menger does have a splendid dining facility, although it might be a bit, ahhh, errr, uhhh, stuffy for us. There are plenty of places within an easy walk that aren't though.
Maybe a Saturday noon later in July at the Menger Bar to strike a blow for liberty, then lunch.
Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

I concur with my esteemed colleague from Comal County.JALLEN wrote:Oh, I'm plenty familiar with the area. Re: Which of you....
Any decision on the San Antonio meeting? The Menger sounds like a good place to start.
Re: Which of you....
Hows about next Saturday at noon, Menger Hotel Bar, in front of that picture of Teddy Roosevelt, or as close as we can get.
We can wet our whistles, then go off to the River Walk for lunch. One of you locals make the call on that one. All I know is Casa Rio.
Any suggestions for parking? I only know the lot across from the Hyatt, which is OK but is there a better choice in that area?

It is a neat bar. Dark an cool and ideal for a hot south Texas day. Here is a quote from sanantonio.com
"In downtown San Antonio, the historic Menger Hotel has an equally historic bar where none other than Teddy Roosevelt spent time recruiting men for his Rough Riders. The Menger Bar is a replica of the House of Lords Pub in London and was built in San Antonio in 1887."
Beer is cold and drinks are tasty and effective.
I am in Austin. My wife and I spent our anniversary there a couple of years ago and we spent a bit of time in the bar.
Hope to get to join you.

Sounds like a good time to be had by all that attend. I am in the process of completing some fencing so in all probability won't be able to attend. If I do finish I will be there.
Just so you guys won't miss each other, may I suggest wearing your CHL badges for an easy ID.

Should we all wear Stetsons or equivalent?krieghoff wrote:.

I'll be wearing khaki slacks and a white golf shirt with a burnt orange longhorn on the left chest... you've seen a million of 'em.
It would be good to have a head count, so if you plan to be there, let me know, so we won't go wandering off without someone.

I have a Saturday meeting that I can't get out of until 12. Any chance of another date?
Re: Which of you....
Due to several situations like that we have changed the plan, and will meet on July 27 at noon at the Alamo Quarry 5 Guys, a hamburger joint I'm told.longdog wrote:I have a Saturday meeting that I can't get out of until 12. Any chance of another date?
