Sorry, no exceptions. Everyone has to take the class, and learn all the ins and outs of Texas CHL law, to get the license.

If you become a CHL instructor first, you don't have to take a CHL class from another instructor. However, that is usally a more expensive proposition unless you live near Georgetown and have plenty of free time. :biggrinjester:

"I ask as I know rules change all the time"

You arrived at a time when some major changes to TX CHL program are about to take place. Between now and August 31, classes have to be at least 10 hours. Effective Sept. 1, they can be as little as 4 to 6 hours + shooting. This forum is a good place to learn more. Btw, welcome to Tejas.

I forgot to say if you have a valid WA CPL then you're covered by reciprocity in the meantime.

Download this and study. http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/InternetFo ... CHL-16.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. The class at this time is 10 hr and the instructor will go over any changes during class. After Sept 1 the classes will be 4 to 6 hr plus range.

Don't be surprised at all the restrictions Texas still has that Washington doesn't. We got RKBA after you guys.

This is actually a consideration for me given my potential future in the industry.
I will research both avenues of approach.
Thanks for the kind welcomes.....

It will count as the class, but you will still have to pay for a CHL. $102 for the class, $120 for the CHL (unless you get the veteran or senior discount).
