Re: sued, prosecuted, or frowned upon?
Well I have not been sued, prosecuted or frowned upon lately, well maybe frowned upon! I have been waiting for DPS to figure out what the world will be like after 9/1. I really hope it is not much longer, it appears that it is going to take a complete rework of my Power Point Presentation which is going to take me a while. I started to try to modify it based on what I thought was right from my reading of the new laws as well as the comments from the board but it seems every time I make a change someone tells me I am wrong.
I don't suppose anyone knows what the target date is at DPS to let us know. I am still waiting for the answer to my questions on my gun instructor credentials also.

I have a class scheduled for Sept 1. Sure hope DPS gives us some info soon!
If we don't have a new CHL-100 by then, I will be in a world of hurt. In violation if I put less than 10 hours on the old form, and in violation if I teach a class longer than 6 hours on Sept 1.

Been a while since I actually read the form, but doesn't it just say that you declare that the student has met all the requirements? I don't remember actual hour requirements printed on the form.Crossfire wrote:I have a class scheduled for Sept 1. Sure hope DPS gives us some info soon!

Come on folks, what have you been doing!? My PowerPoint has been done for years -- it's the one for my renewal classes.
Seriously, I've already created my PowerPoint for post-9/1/13 classes. I reduced the time on NDR, reorganized the eligibility and admin stuff, and left "Use of Force" as is. When the new test is released, I'll have to verify that everything on the test has been covered in the PowerPoint, but I'd be surprised if it isn't. If anything has to be added, I expect it to be minimal.

Easy solution to that! Remember the current CHL 100 hours INCLUDE range time! The 4- does not. 6 hour class and 4 hour range would cover both old and new!Crossfire wrote:I have a class scheduled for Sept 1. Sure hope DPS gives us some info soon!

Not many people would appreciate spending 4 hours on Crossfire's range in the summer-time. Tried that a couple of weeks ago and it was not a pretty sight.wgoforth wrote:Easy solution to that! Re: sued, prosecuted, or frowned upon?
My Power Point for the 4 hour renewal class is not near good enough for a new license. There are LOTS of changes to my Power Point for new licenses. I have started making corrections bases on Graybeards post (viewtopic.php?f=7&t=67849" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) on the board, hope it is correct! Still leaves the question of how the elimination of gun categories and the renewal grace period is going to be viewed by DPS. I had 12 NSA licenses last year and 5 so far this year. Would like to tell them what their status is.Charles L. Cotton wrote:Come on folks, what have you been doing!? My PowerPoint has been done for years -- it's the one for my renewal classes.![]()

In order to fit in what is needed, a lot of things I teach will be conducted in a "pre range" class... gun basics, safety, etc.sjfcontrol wrote:Not many people would appreciate spending 4 hours on Crossfire's range in the summer-time. I've been frowned upon and nearly assaulted when I've said "Now we'll take a break and move on to hours 11 through 15."

That happened to me last weekend when I announced to my class that the two renewals did not need to take the class because they did not expire until October but since they were there they had to stay and take it!MasterOfNone wrote:I've been frowned upon and nearly assaulted when I've said "Now we'll take a break and move on to hours 11 through 15."

In trying to get information out of DPS this week for the article, the little feedback I got was they are working to get us an update, including new forms, but it may still be at least a week or two. And one interpretation of the statute was that, yes, they will be needing to have "in person" instructor renewal schools for everyone who needs before December 31, whether they come to our region or we all go back to them. But time and logistics may dictate we will all have to go back to their casa - at least for the classroom and possibly (as they told us in 2009) have another CHL instructor do the range quals.

Yeah, sometimes it's 20°, the wind is blowing 40 and it's spitting snow and freezing rain as well.Crossfire wrote: Awww, come on. It's not always 105 degrees out there.

It's not always bad. I think I remember one time long ago when I said it was a nice day on the range. But that was only one time....
