I spent a lot of time in Imperial Beach during the late 70's. It was a pretty nice little town then, but looked a lot different last year when I passed through. No telling what they'll find in that house. I hope all ends well.

Imperial Beach is the poor stepchild of beach communities in San Diego, due to it's immediate proximity to Tijuana. I used to live just north of there, in Coronado until about a month ago, happy happy! Lots of military, ex-military, retired military types and lots of illegals, including the recent arrivals starting the trek north, just over the fence. Pretty gritty neighborhoods.
Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

I like IB. That was my last patrol station in SD. My K9 also liked working there.b

Why didn't they just send Officer Friendly in his Good Humor uniform to take care of this situation?
Hope everybody is OK. Texjoker, do you have a Galaxy S3 by chance? I do and the space bar is so small I put a lot of extra periods in things that I type.

Re: shots fired, swat ongoing
For me, anything south of Chula Vista was drive-through country on my way to Rosarito, K-38 1/2, La Misión, Ensenada, San Quintin, and points south. Back in the 1970s there was some really good surfing along the Baja pacific coast before it started getting "discovered" by tourists with plaid Bermuda shorts, white legs, and black socks who look like I do now. I remember buying clam cocktails from street vendors in Ensenada, and downing them with a cold Tecate. Great memories.
But I never knew anybody who lived in Imperial Beach and I did most of my California surfing in Orange County and points north, so I never had an occasion to visit there or I might remember something about it. As it is, it was just a passing exit sign on I-5 on my way to the San Ysidro border crossing.
I was just know zooming in on Google Maps to look at IB, and also at my haunts along the Baja coast, and the beachfront in IB looks like it has a bit of devil-may-care charm to it although I've never seen it in person. I had forgotten about all the extinct volcanos in Baja, but when you see them from the air they are quite apparent.

I was one of those uppity Coronado "Cayjuns" just up the road.

I have a friend that lives in North Park. We like to visit when we can. We usually hung out at Pacific Beach, Ocean Beach, La Jolla, Coronado, etc. All the initials and Beach or Park names make it hard to remember: IB, OB, PB, NP, OP
. It was all very pleasant. We are probably going back again this year. Too bad it's California and not Texas. Loved the climate and the laid back style. It probably feels different when you live and work there

Yes sir... best dept around IMO. My favorite part of Coronado was fishing under the bridge in my boat or yak. Good times.... although I saw people jump while working so I was always Leary about getting hit.
Re: shots fired, swat ongoing
Slight drift.... I was driving over the bridge late one morning and saw a guy get out of his car, walk over to the side and jump, without so much as waiving goodbye. Left his car sitting there blocking traffic, too.texanjoker wrote:

I was one of the first to drive over that bridge after it opened in 1969. I was over at MCRD O Club howling at the moon, and just before midnight, headed back to North Island where I lived. I got to the ferry landing to be told that the ferries were stopping, the bridge was about to open, so I weaved up and over the bridge, past the dignitaries. The ribbon had just been cut. In the 44 years since, I have often reflected how lucky it was that I didn't run over Governor Reagan.

The most "memorable" from the bridge was a pursuit coming at me on my way to work. Female gets out runs with a knife in my direction. I stopped and was like "wow"... I get out with my dog and was going to deploy him to take her down and the CHP's start yelling at me. By the time I figure out they are young rookies guarding the bridge with no clue she is on the ledge. I put the dog up, tell them I have some less lethal> They say if you shoot her she will fall off. No kidding. However if she charges you I can stop her. Then a motor cop pulls up giving me grief for blocking traffic in my patrol car? .... I couldn't believe it. As I got in the car to leave as I wanted no part of their nonsense she stabbed herself and jumped....imagine the news footage had channel 10 shown me leaving, and instead of jumping she charged and they shot herJALLEN wrote:Slight drift.... They shot the lady after she stabbed herself and jumped? Seems like a waste of ammo. Tragic nonetheless.
Looks like they got Ramiro Espinoza and no one was injured.
