This isn't something new except for the fact that some states have recently codified it.
The Constitution preserves the advantage of being armed which Americans possess over the people of almost every other nation where the governments are afraid to trust the people with arms. James Madison

It was probably just common sense before that and didn't require a law.
I am not and have never been a LEO. My avatar is in honor of my friend, Dallas Police Sargent Michael Smith, who was murdered along with four other officers in Dallas on 7.7.2016.

Cannot remember the particulars but we had a Texas case where someone killed another person and claimed stand your ground. Jury decided that person had provoked the incident and was not on their own property and ruled killing a murder.

Was that the incident where the guy took a camera over to his neighbor's house to tell them to turn down the noise, and was yelling about being in fear of his life on the video?

Trayvon's Mon is doing the tours and preaching change of the law and fight against racism.

I would say to Trayvon's mom:
Trayvon's Mom, she should self-confess that she failed raising her kid, Trayvon. A broken Marriage, and son who was a drop out from school and was expelled for weed and confiscated burglary tools. He smoked weed, was active street-fighter, and addicted on "lean" steet-drug and actively seeking codeine. Before attacking others, come out clean and say "I failed raising my kid", and "Do not fail your kids".
