MIT's courses online - free.
This really helped me get through quantum mechanics and thermodynamics. In fact it was this exact course from which our lecture notes were derived.

The cure for boredom is curiosity. There is no cure for curiosity.

When you are done with it, return it to Dorothy Parker. I think that is to whom the quote is attributable.

I was trying to recall who, then got the yips and posted it before I had made that addition.

So, what you are saying is...

The cure for boredom is curiosity. The cure for curiosity is public education.

And thus we don't send our kids to school. :)

Although as far as boredom goes, my mom always said boredom was an attitude problem and we could adjust it ourselves or she'd help us out with a dose of bathroom-cleaning, stall-mucking, or whatever else needed doing. I don't seem to recall that we got bored real often... at least not to the point of telling her about it!

You shouldn't let a teacher tell you what to do, or make choices for you.

Not everyone has an innate sense of curiosity, either, which is why they are bored.

I have had the same issue with some of my kids teachers - I feel fortunate they listened to me and didn't stop learning.

You know, I got a good education, a phd in mechanical engineering and license in TX, but the past few years I have realized i don't know enough on carpentry, construction, electrical, vehicle repair and diagnosis, gardening, growing vegetables and many other areas that i could use expansion. Free courses and good old application would hit the spot for me on these topics and would add value to my pocket book. Actually these are the things that get my interest now.
