Gun Control in Israel?? Really??

Post by sjfcontrol »

From the NRA-ILA Daily Alert...

http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340 ... 90,00.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
At a meeting of the the Internal Affairs Committee on reducing weapons, headed by MK Miri Regev, Aharonovich stated that as part of the gun reform in Israel, anyone who wishes to receive a gun permit will be required to undergo a medical and psychological examination. "If they won't pass the psychologist's test, they'll have to see a psychiatrist," he said.
<snip>
The minister announced that a new police order will be introduced under which an individual who has not renewed his license in over six months will be subject to criminal investigation. Aharonovich said that over 290,000 guns are in the hands of private individuals and security guards, and that he strives to lower that number.
Not exactly the way I thought Israel 'rolled'!! :grumble

Here's a website that will show you the requirements for getting a gun permit in Israel. Basically, you need to be 27 years old (21 if you've served in the IDF), and have a genuine need (self-defense, hunting, and sport are acceptable reasons, apparently) to get a gun permit. Gotta renew every 3 years (and re-qualify) and your background check not only considers criminal activity, but also your medical status, both physical and mental.

Given their position on the globe the application should read:

From what I've been told room temperature can be pretty high in Israel so maybe only folks with a fever could get approved. :lol:

One would think that the only requirement for gun ownership in Israel would be proof of Circumcision from the head of household. :shock:

People see pictures of young ladies walking around Jerusalem with ARs strapped to their backs and assume Israel is very friendly to firearm ownership. But in reality they have VERY strict gun control, and most of the pictures are of off-duty IDF who are still required to carry their weapons off-duty.

I think the estimated number of civilian firearms per 100 people is only 7.3 in Israel. Compared with the US at 100+ per 100 people.

I think licensed civilians are even limited to a certain amount of ammunition that they may possess at any point in time. And all privately owned firearms must be registered with the government.
